Hunting now and remembering back when I was a kid, my dad would give me a book of matches send me to my stand and say light the toilet paper if you get cold and need to warm your hands up. With the Buddy Heaters it’s not necessary anymore. Anyone else ever used toilet paper soaked in alcohol for a heater?

I soak toilet paper in alcohol some mornings, but man I’d hate to smell it burning.
Kerosene on the other hand I can get along with

I only use propane now but this was in the mid 80’s and I was just thinking about old times.

Used them many times back in the 60's & 70's.

Yep, used them a bunch before the little propane bottle heaters came out. They were better than not and would keep your hands worm.

Never used the coffee can with toilet paper but used Sterno canned heat in the stands. It contained some kind of gel that would put off a blue flame when lit and put off pretty good heat.

We used them back in the 70's until one member kicked one over trying to get a shot at a buck. Caught his bell bottoms on fire and burnt his ground stand down....He never lived that one down....

This is off topic, but last night at the saloon, many of the ladies were retro, wearing bell bottoms. The 70s look is back in vogue.

How about the hand warmers where you lit the stick and put it inside the metal and asbestos/fiberglass holder?

We used them (toilet paper soaked with alcohol) when I was a youngster. Small propane heaters were pretty much unheard of then. Grandpa always said they burned without odor. And to be honest, I could never smell them. The first buck I ever shot didn't seem to smell it.

I think I might just use one or two this year for old times sakes, and so that my youngest kids know what they are.

I can remember it was standard issue back in the 60's & 70's. Now toilet paper is standard issue in my blind for another reason. But it kept us warm, and made for some great memories!
I Feed Indian Corn. The deer love it and all the colors make them stay at the feeder longer.
