Nothing but mud, 6” corn stalks, water, and a couple thousand birds. The turn rows are sitting out of the water a bit, they might be dry by next Saturday where we won’t be in the mud on them. How do you hide your layout?

In belgium, back in the days, when there was a bunch of sheet water, the ducks loved it.
When it started to dry out, we put a black plastic tarp (150 feet by 150 feet) closer to the cornfield with decoys on it in the middle. Works even better if you have snow around.
Mallards were pooring in, thinking it was water.
We used the same tactic on top of a snowy iced up pond instead of breaking ice.
It was epic. Its not much work at all and back then, and now, there is no limit on ducks in belgium.
So you can pound them all day long, and yes we did many times. A bag of 200 birds a day was average.

The turnrow is whats drying out, there will be lots of water there all year long probably.

Could you lay down in tubs, with a bunch of corn around you?

I’d take a shovel out and dig a shallow pit. Throw the layout in it and pack some mud on.

I was thinking about getting a cot from academy to put my layout on in a similar situation. They have a few with about 12” legs. Would that get you up high enough? They’re light and fold up.

I really like that idea, but i think they would sink in the mud and also make a bigger shadow on a clear morning that may screw us. Our current plan is to pick the setup spot a few days before best we can, or even a couple of potential spots. We will haul some osb out there, lay it down, and cover it with some hay that they bailed out of the same field. Let them get used to it before Saturday then brush up with it and be pretty well hidden. I was just seeing if anyone had a different idea that we’re not thinking of like eric’s.

That’s a good plan

We use those plastic sleds you pull gear in as layouts a lot. The “front” of the sled makes a good backrest, it doesn’t sink much because of the surface area, and it’s basically a plastic tub so water stays out. We have used it multiple times on straight mudflat, just brushed up like a brush pile. You’d have zero problem hiding in corn stubble

Sheet water in a wheat field is the hardest hunting I've done. I really needed to dig in but the farmer didn't want any wheat tore up. Anything that sticks up that doesn't match perfectly will create problems.

How many hunters are you trying to hide? dig in some if possible, mud blinds up real well with same mud. If corn field was baled, weave some corn stalks in blinds, but not a lot. Make sure hunters get flat in layouts, cover with mesh flaps or wear face mask. Don't have everyone with their head popped out. Are there ever even occasionally geese of some sort in the area? snows specks or Canadas, put some goose fbs out and around the blinds to help break them up. What kinds of ducks are you primarily holding in said spot? What area of the state? PM if you wish

If we don't get the rain we have in the forecast for Thursday then the turn row will be plenty dry to lay blinds on. I'll be out there thursday to lay down some hay and scout out a spot.

We used to go stack a couple pallets up and brush them in. Then you can throw your layout blind on top of them to stay out of the water and the birds are already used to some brush pile there...

Didn’t end up working our way regardless of our hide, 1 mph wind all morning.

Was up north a few years ago and found kids toboggans in camo bought 6 worked like a charm, spread the weight so you did,t sink and double as a decoy sled. I discovered the Cabelas Layout that was waterproof to 12 inches of water and that was fantastic. Used to hunt a shoreline that was wide open and a sand shoreline . would dig them in and bush like drift wood worked fantastic .
