Had 2 dozen deer all around me this morning, but no pigs or coyotes. Two of the deer were branched rack bucks, traveling alone and sniffing the air as they trailed groups of does. Either the rut is on, or it’s mighty close.

It's close. Saw a buck Sunday rolling through my field smelling the air quite a bit.

I still have bachelor groups in young county. I do have a little chasing going on here and there and a bit of sparring going on. I'd say in about 2 weeks it will probably be full on rut.

Had a full on buck fight between two mature bucks last weekend in Knox County. Have a 4 year old 8 point that is targeted as a cull that became a 7 point a couple of weeks ago. New rubs are showing up daily. Middle age and mature bucks are all flying solo. I don’t think the does are ready yet, but the boys sure are.

Had 3 mature bucks eating road corn yesterday evening. They were still hanging out together, although scrapes are being worked on a daily basis.

Same here in parker county. Watched the 10 point I posted on here yesterday chasing a doe in my pasture about 300 yards away from the house. This was at 6:30 in the evening. First time I've laid eyes on him! There was another fork horn that stayed within 20 yards of the two at all times. Everytime that little buck would try to come close he'd run him off. I can't wait for Saturday morning!

Have a yard full of does right now (7:45) and just now had a big fat healthy 9 point (tall rack) lope through the yard. Didn’t show any interest in the wimminfolk. The wife and I were admiring the buck, and she said “don’t you even be thinking about shooting him”. In the interest of full disclosure, I admitted that I was indeed thinking about shooting him. Come on Saturday......

Full disclosure? Are you nuts? Maybe you’re just a better man than me.

I've got heavy scrape activity and most bucks are running solo. Things are definitely heating up

The big guys are still kinda laid back, but the little guys are going at it pretty good in Red River county

I live in Williamson Co, and I've spotted two bucks this week chasing does in the fields behind our house. Mature bucks, too.

A sure sign of the rut starting, is all the road kill. If you travel much, I am sure you have noticed the increase in road kill.

I was in San Marcos this week around 2pm. I saw a nice buck chasing a doe around a field. They did 2 laps then she decided to bolt across 4 lanes of traffic(hunter road). She was dodging cars as she crossed the road. The buck was on a straight line didn't care, didn't look at the cars. He was locked in.
