Deer hunting and hogs walk out, kill the hogs and deer hunt later? Let the hogs walk, wait for your deer? This will be a likely scenario for me Saturday morning, the hogs have been bad this year. Bow season I have been shooting the hogs when in range.

I kill a hog every time I get a chance. 99% of the time they have already ran the deer off when they are coming into the feeder/blind. IME the deer will come back if it is not to late in the morning or evening.

Cut em down, they don't get a free pass on my place. Hogs at feeder = no deer at feeder. Have had deer come back 10 minutes after shooting pig under the feeder...not good ones but deer came back.

If you want some friendly advice, get a haircut and take a bath. You wouldn't get hassled so much.

Whats the optimal eating size weight would you say? And how do you butcher them for your preference?

Shoot the hog and let it lay as long as it is not under the feeder. Say 20 yards away. I've had deer come to the feeder with a dead hog laying 30 yards away. Then get down and drag it off to the "bone yard." That is what we call where we drag all of the hogs to. We hunt yotes there.
And my opinion on size for eating. If I could only pick one weight it would be 70lbs.

I did the same one morning with a coyote. I dropped him about sunrise one morning and let him lay in my food plot. About an hour later I killed a nice eight-point in that same food plot.

I had 15 under me last weekend, two of them directly under me to the point it was hard to shoot the arrow at them. I am guessing I will be killing a lot more during rifle season. Maybe I will bring my AR to the blind too so I can shoot faster at them. Hopefully I get some deer meat in there somewhere.

A wise man once suggested I set my feeders to go off twice in the mornings and twice in the evenings.

This certainly helps with the hog shooting and sill being able to deer hunt.

Since we penned our feeders the hogs don't hang around they may walk through but for the most part the deer don't run out of sight and the hogs are gone. We run a few traps with feeders and shoot them when the opportunity presents without scaring deer. If there is an up and comer buck out there im not shooting much of anything unless its shooting at me.

Several years ago we had a 4 yo 140's 10 point we had been watching his whole life, nearly daily pictures of him. We decided to let him go one more year and I shot a mature 7pt standing next to him. Was the last time we ever saw that deer.

We shoot every coyote we see. When we see them. I guide paid hunters all the time and I tell them if we see a coyote, do not ask me any questions. Whoever touches the gun first shoots. This just became a coyote hunt. I understand the studies and numbers out there on predator control, but THAT coyote won't be killing anymore turkey's or fawns.

Last season I shot this...

..and then 10 minutes later I shot this...

Moral of the story is ALWAYS shoot pigs on site because you never know when a bruiser of a buck may poke his head out after the pigs haul it out of there.

Not something I would ever do. I've never killed an animal that I didn't eat.

But you know...some people get off on killing things... and others are just to lazy to harvest everything they kill - esp. if they view what they kill as a pest.
