I just want to give everyone caution as they head out to the blind in the dark this weekend. Keep in mind that there are some dangerous things out there in the dark. There are plenty of things to worry about......the snakes are bad this year. If you don’t step on a snake in the dark while you’re walking in, then most likely one will slither up your pant leg while you’re hunting. Just think of that snake against the inside of your thigh, in between your pant leg and your skin. Slimy things. That’s if the panthers don’t get you in the dark on the way to your blind. That and spider bites that fester for weeks and rot your skin. Be careful out there.

Not worried about snakes. Last opening day there was a little girl ghost in my stand. Scared the chit out of me...

I am going early Friday to get rid of the flying things that have inhabited some our stands. One had 500 moths and 100 wasps. I left the door open so they better be gone 5 days later. They are getting a yellow strip though.

I spray with Demon WP and leave a No-Pest Strip in my blinds. Done the No-Pest Strips for 25 yrs now to kill wasps and yellow jackets.

No-Pest Strips work for me also. Only thing that worries me walking to the stand in the dark is bumping into a skunk.

The magic of deer hunting, sensesory perception on full alert walking in the dark. For those that aren’t comfortable I recommend a thermal monocular. You can see that big buck eating in your food plot as he leaves before legal shooting light, and Sasquatch too.

None of that bothers me....it's stepping into the middle of a covey of quail and have them explode all around me. That's why I have clean underwear in my backpack. lol35

bet it took a while to count 'em.

Buzzards roosted in my blind until July thanks to me leaving the door open bang

However, they did keep the wasps out, and were kind enough not to crap in my chair. My spare binos weren't so lucky though hammer

Hot shot hanging pests strips are the best.

Works for 3 months. Nothing in my stands yesterday. Except a huge rat.

My favorite is walking up on a grumpy old badger in the dark. Come to think of it, I've never ran into a badger that wasn't grumpy.

Silver spurs and gold tequila
keep me hanging on.
Pretty girls and old cantinas
give me shelter from the storm.

Snakes aren’t slimy......if you have anything slimy slithering up your pant leg you’ve got bigger problems than a harmless little ol snake.....

Came in through the open windows in one of our blinds. They laid some of the red and white eggs and shat everywhere. Smelly beasts doesn't even begin to describe them (or maybe it was the food they brought it)

Oh I know. I am playing the roulette game but figure 5 days isn't enough time for them to figure it out. We had an owl couple get in one blind but had no exit strategy. They were dead in a week which sucks. Wish they could have figured a way out. We always do the yellow strips early except this year since rain kept us away. Poor excuse now. We will take care of anything early Friday.

Not too worried about snakes on the way in. Quail? Yep, done that one as well. Definitely gets your heart started. Opened the door to a stand one morning to have two horned owls come barreling out.
For those that are past about 40 and/or out of shape, please remember that you aren't as young (or as in shape) as you were in your 20's. I don't want to read about someone's heart attack from trying to drag a deer back to the truck and the like.

Let's all be safe out there.

The worst thing I have had happen was climb a metal stand that has open windows and a roof that is 25ft tall I get to the top step in the dark and realize I'm eye level with a raccoon! I take off back down the ladder he jumps on the stool then he jumps thru the window and flies to the ground and lands with a thud but takes off. That could have been a much worse situation! I've ran many owls out and even had them try to land with me in the dark but I'm telling you staring a at a mad coon eye level barely holding on to cold metal steps 25 foot in the air has another meaning all together!

I love when you talk dirty.

If you want some friendly advice, get a haircut and take a bath. You wouldn't get hassled so much.
