deer activity has slowed way down due to rain and acorns but this deer has been showing up semi-regularly.
I'm trying to get my wife on the big 8 as I don't want to spoil the kids too much, but he is tempting to me to try and get with a bow. I got this lease mainly for the kids and wife as I have my west texas place and take several out of state trips a year, I haven't shot a whitetail in years but this one being close to home I'm starting to get the itch a little bit.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.
If I had a chance at a P&Y buck before the wife and kids started their season I'd go for it
I could sneak over there a few afternoons ( like this afternoon ) and have a reasonable chance of getting him if I put a few days in. I've never killed a whitetail buck with my bow ( save for a spike ) but i think i would feel like i would be cheating my wife/kids out of something, as with a phone call i could hunt more places than i have time to and kill as good or better deer.
I really want the wife to get him, but her answer to me last night was "i would have to see him in person " , which made me chuckle cause i know she would kill him. I just question her motivation as she sent me a picture of a neighborhood deer day before yesterday with a caption that said "man if i only had my rifle" but last night during the Halloween festivities my neighbor comes over and asks if i want to go hunt saturday on a high dollar ranch in Kerr County and as i was politely declining she says "sure babe go on ahead, it will be fun", so now i feel semi-obligated to the neighbor now. I am probably the only husband ever who berated his wife for telling him to go hunting because i was planning on taking her.
i guess if its meant to be, its meant to be, from what i know i think the hunting pressure around me is on the lower end (judging this by the number of mature bucks i'm seeing) and hopefully he will be around if we don't make it this weekend.
