hello all, I have a ranger 900 but that sucker is loud. I'm looking at either an electric or hybrid utv or an older gas vehicle???? anyone had experience doing this? I find pigs on property but alot of times they are heading for the hills. is it easier to get on them with a gas car or electric vehicle?

I've had a few golf carts, electric and gas. I've driven up on deer and hogs both in my electric cart. The gas carts had better range, but were almost as noisy as your Ranger probably is, and never drove right up on them without them hearing me coming.

It's about 3/4 mile from camp to my stand, and I don't have any problem doing the round trip 4 or 5 times between charges with my electric. I bought my latest electric one, replaced the batteries and everything electrical on it with HD stuff and still have less than a third of the cost of an Ranger EV into it. If I was you, I'd get an electric cart for ninja stuff, and keep the Ranger for hard work.

Thanks. My issue is my places are pretty big so I was wishing there was some sort of hybrid or super quiet gas rig out there someone knew about. Hell I may just end up buying a junker car and cutting the top off!

If you have rock or gravel roads anything will be loud on the roads.

When I hunted in Namibia, the owner of the ranch refused to hunt on foot. He said that the animals where used to his jeep, and not used to people being on foot, so we could just drive around and spot them, then get out and sneak up on them without spooking them when they saw his jeep.

On my land, I've seen more hogs while out bush hogging then at any other time. It's not even close. They just totally ignore me like I'm not even there. I carry a Ruger Super Blackhawk in .44 mag with a ten inch barrel to shoot them from the tractor. Usually it's just one, or maybe half a dozen, but one time there was well over 30 and they herd just sort of split as I mowed between them. Most went to the right, maybe ten went to the left. At about ten feet, I shot the biggest boar, and then a sow that was slow in taking off after the shot. That was a day that I'll never forget!!!

I have a Kawasaki Transmule that we drive around all the time. It's loud enough that the deer are always running when you see them, but the hogs will sometimes ignore it, sometimes take off. I think it's the surprise factor. If they hear me coming, they don't seem to care, but if I show up from up wind of them, and they didn't know that I was coming, they panic and run off.

To get to my favorite hog hunting feeder, I drive to a spot that gives me a good view, and if they are there, I drive to about a hundred yards, then get out and shoot one. I've done this a dozen times over the past few years and it always works out the same.

Hogs are noisy animals. I don't think that other noises bother them too much. They seem to pretty much ignore each others screams and squeals. Last week I was sitting by my pond and about to give up when I heard them screaming making a bunch of noise. Five minutes later, four of them showed up!!!!

Mitsubishi has an electric AWD SUV. Lifted, it would be suitable. Currently lifting is a custom job. I think we're going to see PHEV trucks and SUVs become available in the near future.

In the meantime, Club Car has dirt road capable carts.

Well, my Honda Pioneer is pretty quiet

X2 on that! Drove up to 300+ Lbs pig last year in my 4Runner, 75 yards shot… that thing did know what hit her… man it was a lot of delicious pork!

IMHO: Tacoma\4Runner would be the first choice, Frontier would be second… Colorado (and all others) would be last choice... and if you like to gamble....

II can't name the times I've driven my electric golf cart within 30 yards of a sounder in open country. It gets more use than my Polaris.

Last weekend hunting with my Daughter out here in CA we drove up on two bunches of pigs in our Honda Pioneer. It sure is a lot quieter than my old Rhino

I have been using old SUV's for hunting cars for a while . No doors , windows , carpet or front end sheet metal . With all the weight gone they are very agile . Still have a/c and heat , radios for varmint calling . Camo painted , sometimes a shooters hole cut in the roof above back seat . Some are 4x4 . I was wondering if there was a market for these in the $1200 range ? If so I could started selling some . Would anyone be interested ?
