I’m not a real early riser. Only Thursday’s. Don’t know what time is light enough to see.

What time is first light?

What time will you be in the stand?

Gracias.

I’m in my stand right now.

Like Chuck Norris, I don’t sleep. I wait.

Fyi for those who don't do homework, when you get to your camp, just type Sunrise in Google search. It knows your location. Or type your town, date, and sunrise in Google before you get there...

Our sunrise is 7:52. In stand 6:50. Usually get a buck move through early and then deer about 8 to 9:30 am for opener it seems. Feeders don't go off until 8 anyway. We will see.

No way that theory works for me. Mine says sunrise at 744.
But sunrise is when the sun breaks horizon. Daybreak is at least 40 mind before that.

I guess I need to be in my stand by 545. It’s about a 15 min walk.

Best to show up about 2:42. You don’t want to miss sunrise..

The US Naval Observatory offers a website that you can use to determine both solar and lunar data for anywhere on the globe. In addition to sunrise and sunset, it lists the times for the beginning and end of what is called “Civil Twilight” which they define as when there is enough light in the early morning and late evening when you can see well enough to work without the aid of artificial light. I’ve found that first light is roughly 30 minutes before Civil Twilight.

You can also use it to determine peak feeding periods which happens roughly during the one hour period before and after moon transit, and roughly 12-1/2 hours later when the moon is at its peak on the opposite side of the globe.

Better stay on the stand late on Opening Day. The moon will be at its peak around 10am.

Solar and Lunar Data

Ok. My sunrise is 742. My civil twilight is 716. So first light bring roughly 646.
Be in stand by 6am.

Thanks Dan.....

My pleasure.

And remember the time change Saturday night. If you use the alarm on your cell phone to get up, be sure to set the alarm an hour earlier Saturday night before going to bed since your phone will adjust its clock by itself.

You’ll see the website lists much earlier times for Sunday.

How is first light almost an hour before sunrise? Civil is when you can see. 30 min before sunrise is legal. Being in stand that early is definitely good but with new moon approaching it will be dark a while. Since our feeders are set to 8 am our cameras show first deer about 7:50 but best activity about 8:45 to 9:15. Now later in season they come early and wait around. I am trying to justify more sleep here! Only deer we saw last weekend showed at 9:05.

I did so that is why I plan on 30 minutes before legal. Legal is 7:22 and civil is 7:26. So 6:52 in stand for me. 10 minute drive and 15 minute walk for me.

Go to Weather Underground. Click on City nearest where you hunt. See when first light.
I hunt near Del Rio. Saturday first light is 7:33 a.m. I will be in blind at 6:30 a.m. (10 minute walk from cabin)
Feeder set for
7:30 a.m. Deer are at feeder before I can see clearly. Very little wait before seeing if a shooter is in the area.

Sunrise 7:36, first legal 7:06, I will be in my stand hopefully by 6:30. Have not hunted this stand before and it has no feeder so not sure when/if deer are there in the morning.

I'll be waiting about 6:15 am for daylight. But what I'm really waiting for is 11:00 am to 2:30 pm. Most all of the good bucks I've taken have come during that time. That being said, I'll be there with ammo, food, toilet paper all day long. peep

I Feed Indian Corn. The deer love it and all the colors make them stay at the feeder longer.

I normally get out there around 4:30 - 5:00 AM and get a good hour trek in. I'm a still hunter though, so I like to get out there early and see what's what...get deep in there where all the game will be running when you late risers all start tromping through the woods wink My eyes have built in night vision like a tarsier!
