Finally getting around to posting pics of new blind I put up this spring. My dad is 75 and was diagnosed about 2 yrs ago with a brain lesion that is impacting his balance and speech. Feels like he is drunk all of the time and struggles to maintain his balance and sometimes his speech is a bit garbled. Not knowing how quickly this was going to progress, I took the first week of November off and we headed to the lease for the entire week. Same thing last year and looking forward to doing it again this year. Last year he really struggled getting into one blind we call "Grampa's Box." It is the only place he ever wants to hunt... It has a ladder going up to a platform about 7 ft up...rungs on steel ladder are narrow steel rods and it was a struggle. So...I planned on building a new blind (and stairs for Grampa's Box) to be prepared for this year. Right around Valentines Day my sister called and told me that our Mom had suffered a stroke...turned out it wasn't a stroke, but was brain tumor that had metastasized from two tumors in her lung. My mom that has never smoked a day in her life was diagnosed with lung cancer. Tumors in lung, brain and spine. Stroke symptoms were from tumor bleeding out in brain. Well, mom and dad are in Colorado and I turned to the garage and building a new blind as my "therapy." Distraction would be a better word. My folks are in Colorado and there wasn't much I could do those first few weeks. My mom asked that I stay in TX until she got all of her test results and knew what the treatment plan was going to be before I bothered coming to CO. So to keep from going crazy, I spent my evenings building this blind (first one I have built) as both a gift to my dad and a tribute to my mom....who is doing great and kicking the $#!+ out of her cancer so far!!! Built it in panels and hauled down in pieces. Floor is 8ft deep 7 ft wide. Box is 6ft deep and 7 ft wide with a small porch on back to make it easier on dad. Pretty happy with how it turned out and can't wait to sit in it with my dad this weekend!!

Added this during opening weekend of bow season....dad can just spin around in chair and answer nature's call without even having to stand up. Used drip irrigation tubing and shut off valve. Ran tubing down leg of blind and buried end about 2 ft down inserted into inverted coffee can to reduce and odor... He plans on staying ALL day!!! Nice build! What are you doing for a ladder/stairs? I took 2 12 ft 2X12s and cut as stair runners. Used 1X6 decking boards (2 deep) for treads. Attached to back porch, 4X4's on concrete pads bolted to 2x12's for support and continued up for railing. Sorry, pics are pre-stairs.....

Yep. Roomy too. Best wishes for you and your family. Needed room for 3.....Dad would rather hunt with my daughter (15yo) than me.... This size gives us plenty of room for all 3 of us to spend time together.

That's great. My latest blind build is 5x8. 6.5' tall. Roomy enough for 3. Makes it much more fun when you can all hunt together.
