Varying opinions but have to ask. Our place is not even passable. County roads washed out and I am sure ranch roads are gone. Too much of a good thing can be a bad thing, imo.

Rains were a little to late to really help fawn crops. If anything the tremendous amount of growth will hamper feeding over the corn feeders. Way too much to eat why go to the feeder?

Anyone feeling this or quite the opposite??

Have still been seeing deer but more than anything the stupid pigs are bad this year. Our best feeder we can not even get to because it has not been dry enough for a month basically. Not going to get discouraged though, going to hunt hard regardless.

waiting to see how much the rain has hampered our place out SW from Ozona this weekend. I suspected one of my feeders had pin holes in the lid the last time I filled it back in August but didn't have a replacement (some of you might remember me asking about a new feeder lid). The LO told me she had over 12 inches of rain between Labor Day weekend and 2 weeks ago, all the tanks & big caliche pits were brimming over full and she tried to spin the plate on that feeder and said it seemed stuck due to clogged corn. bang Will be taking a new feeder with me and get it back up and going ...

Yeah, its one of those times I am happy to have a big feeder spinning corn, since I haven't been able to get back to fill it for over a month. Had 12 bags of corn and soy go to waste in the back of my truck when we got 6 inches of rain one weekend I was expecting just a little drizzle...other than that, not a wasted year so far, still plenty of it to make do with.

Deer been pretty regular, acting normal. Just need to get it dried out a bit so I can get some feed back to the feeder before too much longer.

Mills cty got plenty of rain and really helped the forage and grass. roads are all passable, just had to move some debris off of some at the water crossings. we do have a bumper crop off ragweed and I mean a bumper crop, when that crap starts blooming, all the allergies will go to heck!

Our roads are fine. Just a bit washed out in places but passable. One does need to dry before a truck is driven back there. Can use a 4 wheeler to get a deer out. Lots of bedding places are a swamp now though.

Deer were hitting the corn feeders very well last weekend and everything is green. Slightly muddy, but green.

Deer were literally trotting from one feeder to the next at my hunting spot when my three staggered timed feeders went off.

Our deer would usually be running does like crazy right now. Between lack of feeder activity , rain, hogs, and heat, this has been the least visible rut I have ever seen.

I like all the rain, new green growth and mast crops for this year. Makes hunting more hunting than cafeteria hunting. I am expecting some really good buck traveling/movement during the daylight hours to check for does all over the place instead of the does being concentrated at feeders. I just got my oats planted and that will help bring does in to those locations and bucks will follow or check those spots out also. Late morning to midday hunting should be really good during the rut or on really bad weather days also with the bucks moving around more to find does. I checked a trail cam on my other place today that I had not been able to check since I last did on October 5th. I had only 1 buck for a couple pics one night since late June. Then when the weather turned cooler and rainded, the bucks really started to move the very next day. I had 3 new bucks that afternoon then a few days later 3 older new bucks that afternoon. A couple of more younger bucks also showed up. All those bucks stayed around for about 20 days till it warmed up. Lot of these bucks I have not had pics of in 2 yr now. That area produces a lot of winter weeds and makes it very difficult to hunt just like acorns here make it hard to pinpoint one location here. Going to be fun and I think an intense rut when it happens with a lot of buck movement.

The movement has been good so far. Just makes getting around more difficult. You gotta pick your spots with a good weather app if your able.

The main drawback we are seeing is the amount of hog activity especially with a lot of feeders a water/mud hole.

Got in excess of 9" rain in Dickens County in last 2 months. Lush growth every where. Slow activity at feeders but deer look great. Racks look larger than the last several years. Minimal fawns with only singles when observed. More 8 points on camera than previous 5 years!!

With all the rain, my place in east Texas is very muddy and has a lot of standing water. My gator could get through but just barely. I hunt close enough to the road to walk in. But the water has messed up the woods and the animals. They all seem displaced. Rivers and creeks are over their banks.

Season just started. No it is not ruined. We killed a 200 and189 opening weekend LF. Was muddy and wet as heck. Deer are still living there no matter the conditions.

Noticeable decrease in activity at the feeders. Colder / drier weather and rut will change that.

As all I hunt is public with no feeders, I can only attest to banking on the rut

I've noticed a huge drop in the number of deer coming to my feeder the entire month of October. Standing water in this morning's pictures again. Much of the interior of our 5300 acre lease is impassable with flooded roads. The mosquitoes are off the charts, too.

With the recent oil, gas activity around the Brenham TX, Lake Somerville area the deer have been somewhat skittish around our farm over the last month or so, but with a heavy acorn crop too hasn't helped much either! not sure where you all located, we cut our feed times to morning time only, deer are not getting all feed from the feeder. Local crows like the extra handouts!

We need a good freeze now to change things up some!

hunt safe....

Killing a deer is not the reason I go...it's a bonus. So I will be there Saturday morning. We may have to walk in with all the rain, but I've done that before. Good luck to all.

Hmm I don't know, killing a deer is the reason I go, the scenery is a bonus, but if there was nothing there to hunt I wouldn't be there. We always walk in rain or not.

My kids, and I must admit I love slippin and sliding the mile long sandy/clay road to camp. If we can't get mud on the windshield they say it didn't rain enough. Its our place so it doesn't matter if we hunt or not just so long as nobody has to walk the mile to get the tractor. roflmao

Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

The last mud hole before we get to the stand is 4,000 feet away from the tractor....ask me how I know, lol. Now ask me why I have mud holes in the first place. Well one of my grandsons (7 years old) was driving the mule and we went through a mud hole and almost got stuck. I told him not to worry that next weekend I was going to have a lot of rock delivered and would fill in the five mud holes that we have to drive through. He looked at me and said, "What's the fun in that?" I thought about it and decided I was getting to old and still needed a little fun in my life, SO...we have mud holes to drive the mule through. And if we don't get stuck, they are a lot of fun.

Deer aren't hitting my feeders much but they are slurping down the road corn. I watched 5 bucks chasing doe yesterday morning. 3 on the neighbors property and 2 on ours. They were running hard.
