How does the 13" inside spread apply when there are multiple main beams? He looks legal if you take the outermost main beam on his left side.

Argument could be made either way. A that’s a head scratcher. I'd ask the local GW before I shot that one.

Legal, widest spread is wider than 13". Would not hurt to call the GW to be sure. I personally would not hesitate to shoot that deer, meat in the freezer!

I've sent the pic to the game warden, will let you know. For those that think legal, is it because you think he's 13"on the inside main beam or because you measure to the outside main beam in this case?

the regulations simply state "inside spread of 13". I would say he is legal...but, he is young. Could you imagine what kind of tangled mess he would be if you let him grow a few years? I bet he'd make a really cool looking non-typical mount in a few years!

That is a crazy looking rack. You could also argue that there is an "unbranched" antler on one side. Looks like two of the three main beams are unbranched. That's a more slippery slope than having three spread measurements and taking the largest.
Now that GW has pic, this will be a case study at next GW academy.

Why on earth would you shoot that deer? He could blow up into a giant non typical in a couple yrs. My thoughts too. Young buck with a damaged pedicle. He could be normal next year or be a freak the rest of his life. If all I wanted is deer meat in the freezer I suppose I’d shoot him, looks over 13”.

From the GW, in this case, the definition of main beam is the one with the brow tine so the inside left main beam is where the measurement would take place. I don't intend to shoot it either way, but was curious how to measure if you did. My son has a mount in his room from his granddad that had 3 main beams so it's of particular interest to him.

If there is any hair between the second and third point, then the third point would be considered a third antler and hence an unbranched antler, making it legal. I shot a deer with a third antler one year and posted a picture here and someone reported me for it but the game warden confirmed that it was legal due to a separate protrusion of hard horn.

One injury was old and caused an antler to grow strait downward. It wasn't bad enough that I had been watching the poor thing all weekend and finally decided to put him down.
