Twenty years ago you could get county maps from I believe the highway department that as I remember were extremely detailed and available in very large sizes. Are these still available anywhere? The last time I tried to find them, I didn’t find anything nearly as detailed. The old ones showed every little creek and every dirt road of any size.

Not sure where you get em now. My dad was in real estate and he used to get aerial maps of properties at the soil conservation office. Not sure if that can still be done

I used to get the same books. Very detailed. Haven't seen them in years. Google maps has pretty good details, you would just have to print several pages.

I am old enough to prefer maps to Google and GPS.

Delorme Texas Atlas is a good one, so is Roads of Texas. I have used both.

Just download the OnXmaps app on your phone (or desktop) - it has the topo layers that show all the roads/paths/creeks/etc. And it's GPS enabled mapping.

I have this one, if you can't find where you are or need to go with this atlas, you probably don't need to go there.

Was on my first lease 27 years ago with a couple of guys who would use those old detail maps to sniff out where there might be water in the bar ditches so they could go "muddin" after it got dark! Good times!

I use digital topo maps in my mapping program constanty. For Texas, go to TNRIS (Texas Natural Resource Information System), website: https://tnris.org/data-download/#!/statewide, scroll to Digital Raster Graphics, pick your county, then your quad (estimate if you have to, then examine). These are large maps and if you don't have a plotter, take them to a Kinko's, etc. on a thumb drive and they can print them for ya. If you want satellite imagery, scroll down to the Digital Orthophoto Quads (DOQQ). Don't let the names scare you, they are just images smile

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, beer in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming.

Most Chamber of Commerce offices in the rural areas will have county maps that are free of charge.
Adios,

I'd go with free if you can find some good images, but if have any issues finding high resolution/recent imagery, I'd be happy to see what we have available for your county. We have recent imagery for most of Texas that is lights out quality. www.MapMyRanch.com
