The lake I’ve been scouting all summer, where I planned to do most of my hunting this year has completely flooded out. My 6” deep spots are now 10ft plus. With that being said, the woods around the lake are now completely flooded for literally miles with 3-4 ft of water. Mostly oak trees. I drove all around it yesterday and didn’t see any birds, but I also didn’t see a bird on the rest of the lake either. Will these Texas ducks get into the flooded timber like they do other states? I’ve really never had an opportunity to hunt a lake so flooded out of its banks like this. My home lake does it at time but it’s all willow trees and the ducks don’t seem to care for it much. It’s stilll pretty green and thick in there, but I found a few pretty nices holes off in the timber that should clear out pretty good when the leaves drop.

Yes they will be in the timber, our private waters are holding little to no birds on tanks. However, the amount of ducks in the timber is insane. Even found a few ringnecks in timber which I found funny

Ringers like the timber. They look like a diver, act like a puddler.

Run woods in your boat. Jump a bunch of ducks, don't shoot, throw out a couple dozen dekes, call ducks when you should, don't call ducks when you shouldn't, shoot ducks just before they lite on your decoys.

If it's a big block of woods use your gps. Flooded woods you are not familiar with can look all the same on a cloudy day.

The last time it flooded to this level in 2015 was the best year I've had hunting in the last decade in TX. We had some really good hunts in holes in the timber, and also very good in flooded fields surrounded by woods. The key seemed to be staying away from the wood edges where every single hunter would set up. Either building a blind in the middle of a flooded field, or getting to the heart of the timber away from where people could walk in was the best by far. The cool thing also was you could see where the ducks wanted to be, there would be piles of feathers floating on the water and stuck and branches and bushes in certain areas.

Shoot, around here the edge of the woods is in 10'+ of water.
