Youth weekend 2018 couldn’t have gone any better! My son is 7 and this was his 1st year to carry his own rifle. I was so excited as I have been waiting on this day for 7.5 years. I got him a 300 black out and he proved hinself at the range with sone way better than expected shooting.
We settled in the stand well before daylight and the waiting game began. Around 8:30 “as our hopes were slowly dwendeling” this guy steps out at 200 yards. My heart jumped up in my throat as he started our way! The farthest shot my son had taken was just under 100 yards... He got to 150 and started heading the other way. I got little man settled and told him to squeeze one off when I get him stopped with a grunt. I called and this dude does a 180 and comes right in! He gets to about 80 yards and I tell my boy to get ready because I’m going to stop him... I grunt and he keeps walking, whistle twice and he keeps going! I tell him to stay on him and when he stops, Bust him. About 10 more yards he stops and looks back and my boy straight lays the hammer down! This buck droped is dead where he stood!! The next 10 min are minutes we will never forget. Buck fever had both of us torn up, excitement, cheering, high fives, and hugs! I couldn’t be more proud of my son and hope to have many more days like this!!

That's so great for both of you! Great story and and awesome memory. My son is 7.5 and says he's ready to kill a deer but he needs to prove he's capable with the gun first, also a 300BO. We head out Thursday, cook and practice shooting Friday, hunt Saturday Sunday.
