I was out early this morning, hoping for a coyote. A glorious morning it was. I had deer all over me, Owls hooting, pigs squealing (somewhere), and there was the coyote. He was out there a ways, so I grabbed the Nikon 600 rangefinder, which seems to max out at about 400 yards, and I could not range the coyote. he stood still, with the sunlight on him, and he seemed to glow in the morning light. Big chest. Heavy fur. Perfect for the shot that I didn’t take. Ok...that’s enough of that rangefinder. I’m getting a new one. Today. I don’t need to range 1000 yards. I need a RF that will honestly read a coyote or mud covered hog to 600 yards. What will get me there without a price that would not kill my plans for that VX5?

I just ordered the sig kilo 1250, from Amazon, for $250. Nice price. Good reviews. Should be good for deer and coyote to at least 500 yards, which is all I really need.

I will go the 1250 yards it claims, in the right lughting. The glass ain't that great, but the laser is very fast, and very accurate.

If it’ll give me accurate and fast ranging out to 500 or 550, I won’t care if the glass isn’t the absolute best. All I needed this morning was the range on that standing coyote. I was gonna dial the turret and send a bullet. Ooooooo, I hated to let him walk. I should have replaced that old Nikon RF years ago. Don’t know why I didn’t. Nobody’s fault but mine.
Just told the wife to get me that new VX5 scope for Christmas. Don’t really need it, but I do want it.

550 yards is a piece of cake for that laser.

I have the Sig kilo 2200. I’ve ranged deer out to 400yds & other objects out to 1400yds. It is fast also especially in the scan mode. Cabelas has it at 399 now. I got it during their Black Friday sale last yr for 349
No doubt about the AR crap, just damn shame hunters don't have self control and knowledge

Haha yea I polished that thing for hours.

Wow! This is an old one. Let me update. I was not impressed with the Sig Kilo 1250 RF, so I returned it and replaced it with a Leica 2000B. And I am very happy with the Leica. I guess I’ve had it 2 years or more. No complaints at all.

I upgraded everything. The rangefinder is a Leica 2000B, which will range a mud covered pig further than I can hit him. And I did get the Leupold VX5 3-15 CDS with fire dot. It’s great. Top notch glass, I do like the CDS, and that fire dot is great. I’ve used the fire dot on several pigs in dim light. Probably would not have gotten them otherwise.

And I love the fire dot..... I haven't sent off for my dial yet though, still playing with ammunition... Have you found that the CDS is accurate?

It tested out as very accurate, but that’s because I gave the correct ballistics info to Leupold. Of course that’s only one bullet by one maker, so if I changed bullets or MV, the turret would be wrong to some degree. A little wrong or a lot wrong, depending on the bullet weight and MV.
I did run into one problem with the turret. It was the correct turret, but when I saw a big hog out in my hay field and I even knew the distance to him, it was too dark to see the turret yard marks. Had to get the flashlight out. So I dialed it, had the fire dot on, and let fly. It was almost too dark, but I could still make him out. With no fire dot there was no way I could’ve made that shot. I found him a day later. Somebody on the forum suggested glow in the dark tape, so I got some and cut tiny triangles to mark the top of the turret. Worked great.
I have a whole role of glow in the dark tape now. Pretty easy to find in a dark workshop.
