My daughter shot a buck this evening. We waited about 20 minutes before getting out of the blind to pick the arrow up and look at the site it was shot. The shot might have been a tad back but I thought it was a good hit. The deer walked off slowly and I really thought he was going to fall within view, however he went out of sight into the brush.
When we picked the arrow up I'm pretty sure I heard him get up. My question is how long do you think I should wait before going back in? It's been roughly an hour and half now. It's a grainy picture but you can see the entrance.

Looks like a liver shot and I would wait for a few hours before going back in to track. That hunched up look and fact he walked off slowly are good signs of a liver hit. Was he broadside?

Might have been quartered to us just a bit. Complete pass thru rage 2 blade, no blood at point of impact

If it hit liver and gut I would wait a while if not till morning if possible. How cold will you be tonight?

A liver shot will kill the deer a bit sooner than gut only. How far did had he gone after the shot when you think you jumped him?

If that is the entrance and was slightly quartering to then from the looks of that pic it might have gotten one lung and liver. I would wait minimum of another hour after you think he got up. Best of luck and hope to see pics of her holding her buck!!

Plenty of time before looking for the arrow IMO. You start second guessing though once things like this happen.

I liver shot a buck at the same angle with a rifle and I jumped him 10 minutes after the shot and he had gone maybe 75 yards. He was heading back home thru more opening country and it was getting dark so I slowly went after him when I thought he was down. He had only gone maybe 40-50 yards the second time and laid up under a big mesquite out of my sight. He let me walk past him to the north about 35 yards when I took the wrong split in a trail. I back tracked and took the trail went on. I saw him about the same time he was about to get up and run out the backside of that mesquite at only 35 yards or so. I watched him run fast at first then trot and could not get back on him in some scattered mesquites. I lost his trail that evening/night after about 1 to 1.5 hrs. I found him later the next morning and he had gone about 250 yards from the last place I jumped him and bedded in taller grass/weeds behind another mesquite. I do not think I had jumped him that night.

That’s true enough. Hindsight is 20/20. We can only do what we feel is best at the time. I would have done the same.

A liver shot deer should be left alone for 8 hrs from my experiences. If it was double lung he should be down in 50 yds or less.

Well that's my dilemma, not sure if it all liver and partial lung. Its been roughly 2 1/2 hours. I picked up very little blood where he walked in the brush. I'm now 100yds down the trail and very little blood. Consensus??!!!

Tough call. Meat isn't going to be any good overnight. Might go as far as you can on that light blood trail, mark it and come back in the morning if it stops.
