So this guy just started showing up. Lease is in Sterling county. Low fence, no protein, 1000 acres. How old is he? Tia

That's what I am thinking. Got a couple on camera that appear to be older. However, their antlers are not as good. Thanks for the reply!

4 or older from that one photo and a broadside will give a little better look at him.

IMO I look for the swayback & potbelly features 1st for SR Citizens...and the 1st deer is severly lacking in those 2 items...while the 2nd deer is getting there. Given the choice of who to let walk standing side by side I'd let the "young" guy walk and take the older deer with smaller bonnet on is head home to dinner.

On the second deer, I see a good brisket and potbelly, the beginnings of a swayback, I would think 5.5 on that one. The 1st deer seems younger to me, 4.5 (I don't think he's 3.5). At the risk of alienating hard-core trophy managers, I think that first buck is a good shooter buck on most low-fence places in the Hill Country, but I have limited experience with WT deer in your area. in the Round Mountain, TX area where I hunt, I would be proud to take that buck.

Send him east to the Miles and Rowena area, we will take care of him for you.

With the new pic I would still say the first buck is 4 or 5. The second buck I would put at mature and possible a 7 yr old from that pic. This is not much difference in tine length on the two bucks with the first buck being a bit wider and possibly an inch or two more on mass. IMO There will not be much difference in score if that is what interests you. I would shoot the one I like the most if it were me.

I’m far from an expert on aging deer, but doesn’t the wrinkles at the base of the ears on the first buck (second pic) mean anything? The wrinkles still show even though the bucks ear is back. And what about the divot in the center of the skull? I’d guess about 5

I would call the top buck 5. The other 7 and ready for a dirt nap.
