With all of the rain we've had recently I now have a huge pool of water under my feeder about 6" deep 10' across. Anyone ever buy sakrete and mix in with the water to try to solidify and resolve this situation for good? Any success?

You have to remember, they might not be drinking as much as we are.

Ask stxranchman. A ranch he used to manage has circular concrete pads under all their spincast feeders. Maybe protein feeders, too. Can't recall.

We do that on our family ranch in Milam County. The deer dont seem to mind at all.

or i wonder if a person got those big heavy rubber mats like used in a horse stall or trailer and laid them out if that would work too?

Neat idea.
My wife likes her "piggy puddles" under the feeders. If I was to concrete them in, I would have to move the feeder to a new mud hole.

They'd just sink in the mud.

I have concreted some. Worked good. Another thing that helps is buy some hog panels and put them under the feeder. Pigs cant root as much, so keeps them from making mud holes.

I've done that and it helps for a while, and we built up a mound before staking down the panel, but since it was sandy soil, the hogs and deer just stomped it down and a pool came back under and around the panel.
You'll have to pull it up and replace the dirt eventually.
The concrete will help, but the hogs will just dig and make holes around the outer edges unless you make a large diameter slab. Examples in above posts.

Actually not a deer stand. Its the base to an old tower blind, but the blind got rotten, and we converted it to hold a big corn feeder now. My Grandpa gets bored easily and will give himself all these projects to stay busy. Youll also notice he placed a wooden ladder next to the ladder that was already there. Two ladders are better than one I guess.

We eventually just moved 3 of ours closer and on a slight incline. One was a foot deep. I dug a channel on one and they just dug deeper. Hog panels is best to keep anything from getting in to dig to China.

I have feed pens around all my feeders and still have mud holes under some of them. Soil type and deer density can make a hole under a feeder over time. Coons can help deepen a hole also when they dig for corn in the cracks in the soil under a spin feeder. The dig out the dirt clods to get to corn down in the cracks.

I hope he doesn't use that sketchy wooden ladder carrying a full bag of corn.
I say this with respect for your Grandpa, as I've done that before and now when I think back on it I wonder why I'm still around.

Oh he doesnít worry about going up that ladder. Thatís what Iím here for. I guess itís a lot more sturdy than it looks. I go up it all the time with a bag of corn.
