It seems the number of buck attraction scents on store shelves grows larger every year. You can find all sorts of bottles and spray cans of the stuff with every name imaginable to entice those looking for an edge at getting a true wall hanger. I’ve always been a Tinks 69 man myself but have no evidence to suggest it does anything more than stink up a pad of felt.

So then, what’s your “better get your gun ready cause he’s a coming” deer scent?

I made a necklace out of corn kernels and put around my neck. Did it work?

I have to think most of these products, just like fishing lures, have worked for someone somewhere at some point. I think the issue is using some of these at the right place and time is key. Yes, I’ve had success with tinks 69 pre/ during rut and I’ll admit I use that acorn rage right before acorns really start to drop and late season with success.

I've had success during the rut using tinks 69 and also Trails end doe in estrus.
Using the Trails End, I had a nice buck walk up to within 10 feet of the wick I placed on a limb, and raise his nose and flair his nostrils....No doubt he came in looking for a doe or just out of curiosity, but what ever it is it did attract him.
I've never seen it scare the deer....They either ignore it or show interest, so I'll use it during the rut for sure.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

I have only had young bucks come in to scents like tinks etc. that you can buy off the shelf and they all ran off scard after coming up and sniffing on it.

What has worked best for us is the tarsal gland off of a dominant buck or a doe in heat. Have had good luck putting them in the freezer for a later date. have even used them the following season with good luck.

Waste of time and money, IMO.

Have also had success with Tinks 69.

When he was young, I told Dale Jr. that hunting and racing are a lot alike. Holding that steering wheel and holding that rifle both mean you better be responsible.

I suspect doe pee and other attraction scent products are much like those little blue pills. Many of the guys who use them are not likely to admit it.

My problem is that after all the excitement that comes with taking a nice buck, I haven’t a clue what I might have used, if anything, to catch his attention.

I Feed Indian Corn. The deer love it and all the colors make them stay at the feeder longer.

I don't believe in them as attractants. But they do have a place in my bag. I'll put some on a cotton ball on a game trail to get a buck to stop in my shooting lane. First buck I ever took with a bow 25 years ago fell for this setup.

I think I have tried a dozen or so with little to no proof of being effective. Tinks 69 and Golden Scrape in a dripper are about the only two I have seen proven results. I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see with my own eyes.

I put up a dripper with Golden Scrape nestled back into a large cedar tree about 15 yards from a feeder and had several different mature bucks leave the feeder when they caught the scent to go investigate, then thrash the outer branches of the cedar. I sat that same stand 5 days in a row both am & pm, and every time the feeder went off, the same thing happened.

I usually have a zip lock baggy full of cotton balls in my pack, once in the stand soak with Tinks 69 and toss out the window downwind and have had both bucks and does follow the scent from downwind up to directly below the stand where the soaked cotton ball was tossed.

The first time I ever heard or saw Tinks 69 was on a Colorado elk/MD hunt years ago. My BIL had a bottle and some of the golf tee with sponge on top, stuck one in the ground in a clearing then put a few drops of Tinks on it, we set up on a ridge about 200 yards away where we had a good vantage point and in ran a spike bull elk straight to the tee, and started dry humping while sniffing it. We both got a good chuckle watching the poor little guy.
