OK AR guys I need some education. I'm a shade tree gunsmith, all of my experience and knowledge are with bolt guns. What make/model parts do I need to achieve the best accuracy possible out of an AR.

Barrel is going to make all the difference in the world. A lot depends on caliber and intended purpose.

budget?? then go from there. DONT FORGET to reserve $2,000 for scope You say precision, Billet lower, Geisle, Timney, Trigger Tech, trigger Proof barrel The rest will have to come from someone who knows what they are talking about. Keep me posted, I want to build/buy a <5# AR.

I've got the optic and trigger, I want to try and stay clear of aR-10 and stick with AR-15 platform so I'm guessing .224 Valkyrie which I have already in a Stagg. I've tried factory ammo because I couldn't find brass at the time, recently ordered some starline brass (which I'm not sure how consistent starline is) and 73gr ELD's since I have 7 twist rate I don't think I can stabilize the 80 or 90's. If I can't get to shoot at least 1MOA I won't let my son use it for hunting, I have plenty spare bolt guns ready for action. Oh, he's a lefty and the AR is a lefty, talk about nice for shooting yotes out the drivers side window.

I spent about 1800 on my 6.8 I built including an SWFA 1-4 and easily took it out to 500 yards. IMO most important components are barrel and trigger then optics but you don’t need no 2K dollar scope to shoot out a long ways.

I have the FF handguard too.........22" barrel can't remember the name but think its a McGowan or something spelled similar to that. I'm going to see if I can get it to tighten up with the handloads as soon as I get everything. I'll be looking for another barrel based on the comments unless it shoots exceptional with handloads. I also have 3 other AR's two are AR-10's one in a .243 and one in .308, the other is a AR-15 in .223. The AR-10 are a little bulky for my 10yr old to handle in a blind. The .223 is what he was shooting just want something with a little more lead and I wanted it too.

For more lead in the 15 you might want to look at the 6.5 Grendel. A very respectable cartridge, 123 gr. and can easily reach out to 800.

200 for now is as far as I'll let my 10yr old shoot a deer. I let him practice on pigs at 2 stands with the feeders set at 400 which is primarily to shoot pigs from, has no pin around its just an offseason stand to calm the fever.

Based upon my research, I'd buy a Seekins and call it done.

They only have 7twist for 224 Valkyrie Shoot 80 grain ELDs. The 90 grain bullets are better for 22 Creedmoor. Federal screwed that one up by marketing 90 grain bullets an then not delivering.

Wilson Combat complete upper shipped to your door. Spikes snowflake lower. CMC trigger. Wouldn’t go more than 20 on the barrel length.

OK AR guys I need some education. I'm a shade tree gunsmith, all of my experience and knowledge are with bolt guns. What make/model parts do I need to achieve the best accuracy possible out of an AR. Start with a upper thats been trued/squared up regardless of caliber you go with. I'm sure you know to get a quality barrel/bolt thats been matched up to each other. Barrel length will depend on range you'll want to shoot out to. Next would be a free float tube. Of coarse you'll need a good trigger. I use a Geissle trigger, but there are numerous triggers out there like a Timney. I've got over 1500 in my 6.8 AR and that doesn't include optics or suppressor.
Retired U. S. Army, which means I still have to work to make a living.

As already said, the barrel and bolt are the most important parts, followed by the trigger. I have grown very fond of JP rifles, but haven't really fallen in love with the prices. As with anything else, though you will get what you pay for with quality parts. I seen a lapped upper make a difference as well.

Barrel, trigger and free-float handguard are the most important parts.
I am partial to Wilson Combat.
