'Planning on the HEB/Costco/Walmart/liquor store run next week, in preparation for the filling feeders trip last weekend of October. The wife introduced me to the Costco easy fix area of foods, and some of the guys on the lease actually like them. I can't do the old school Vienna sausages, sardines(and any other key-to-open canned fish...my grandfather's favorite, and he didn't drink!), etc. I can grill steaks, bake potatoes, make a salad, yada, yada at the cabin.
But, what is your favorite, best-tasting hunting meal that you could fix in the field, daylight or dark, beside the vehicle with a ground fire (or even cold, no fire), if you had/wanted to?? (Please exclude Mountain Home, or any other backpacking, freeze-dried stuff. I almost farted myself to death on those things in the Sierra Diablos on a hunt.)

I have a coleman stove and cast iron skillet, can fix pretty much anything I want. But my main go to is having link sausage to toss on the fire, German, Polish, Brats, etc. and a package of tortillas, I can last for days. When I head to Ozona, I stop and buy brisket and a loaf of bread, lasts me several days by merely putting in the ice chest between meals.
potatoes, sausage, eggs in the skillet is an easy meal(s) too.

I am a huge fan of meals made at home, put in the vacuum bag and boiled to heat them up. Your possibilities are endless with choice of meal with virtually no clean up.

I usually just do sandwiches, pre-made. Maybe some summer sausage, cheese, and crackers. Canned pasta too. When I'm on a hunting trip, I'm usually to darned tired or busy to do any cooking. The only thing I heat up is some water for instant coffee in the morning. I figure, a real cooked meal will be my reward for a successful hunt when it's over.

I’m pretty big on stews, soups and chili.
Fried backstrap is a staple. Sausage and brats too.
Breakfast is a staple.

I eat the tuna packets snack stuff and plenty of peanut butter crackers. You know where you can put the Vienna sausages.

My simple go to meal at the lease is the Uncle Bens Red Beans and Rice in the packet that you just microwave for 90seconds and then I warm up some Venison smoke sausage to mix with it. Probably takes less than 5 minutes to cut up the sausage and stick it and the rice in the microwave. The packet of rice and beans costs $1.74 at Wally Mart and I already have a freezer full of the Venison link sausage so not only is it easy but its cheap too.

If you have electricity, a crock pot can be a "gourmet" delight. Chili, we fry the meat and season before we leave home, freeze it, when it is time for chili, we stuff it in the crockpot, and let it cook. All we have to do is add water and any extras. Stews, we get the packages of frozen stew vegetables, fry meat ahead of time. throw it in the pot and cook it. No bowls, we use plastic utensils and we eat the chili and stew out of 12 oz Styrofoam cups.
An electric skillet is as good as a stove, we use it mainly for breakfast. We also have a small microwave, between the skillet crockpot and microwave, meals can be as quick and easy as we want or as elaborate as we want. Outside we have a pit and a grill.

It’s pretty good. But I know what you mean. 16 days so far this year of dehydrates and or freeze died food, and another 10 planned Out side that rib eye, tortillas and egg beaters. Left over rib eye goes into eggs next morning. Egg beaters is easier to transport also. Lunch - dry sausage and good stout parmesan and Dry Cheeder cheese

Link sausage, brauts, etc on bread w/ mustard is my go to easy meal. Can cook that just about anywhere in no time. Add a can of chili on the fire if you want to get fancy.
Shoot. Eat. Repeat.

I have also moved to the cook at home and take it plan. I really like cooking big meals outdoor at the lease, just not during deer season. I hunt hard and it's usually about 7 in the evening before I'm ready to start cooking and I'm starving, ready to eat. Stew cooked at home and heated, same for fresh vegetables and Salisbury venison in a thick gravy are easily heated up are great. I have discovered how well scrambled eggs keep in a bag and microwaved with cheese, along with bacon cooked at home. I like to spend my time hunting and then have a quick meal so I can have a drink around the fire with others and hit the sack early.
An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.
