So, i have a deer lease in Hondo, Tx right on the Hondo creek. My main question is how the duck hunting is in that area or if that area is a place where they could be hunted. I have been on this place for 2 years now and i dont remember seeing any ducks, but the creek was also dry. With it being full, i was also wondering if there is something we can do to attract ducks to the river this late in the year. I know usually hunters prefer flooded grain fields, so i was curious if there is anything i can do that might make duck hunting possible as well out there. Thanks for any feedback yall can give!!!

I have a friend with a big ranch in hondo and they get quite a few ducks on their lakes and tanks. With that being said, there are definitely ducks in the area. If I were you I'd just walk the creek and jump shoot the few that decide the land on it.

And then hunt those ares during following trips

throw a small group of decoys out in an open area and see if anything comes down to give them a look.

Too late to plant anything. And river bank not really a good place to plant anyway (seed gets washed away, and not really a drawdown like a pond). Your best bet is to just go scout it, see if and where the ducks want to be. Then set-up in that spot the next day and shoot’m in the face. That is what duck hunting is all about.

If you scout it and there are no ducks, you could pick a spot and try and pull down some ducks, but set your expectations low.

You could also think about getting a backhoe down there and make a flooded area.
