all observations taken from the truck window at 5 to 10mph over the posted limit (unless in town then following the posted limits exactly)

from Altus, OK all the way to Spur, Texas ZERO wildlife activity on two trips yesterday 16th and last Tuesday the 9th

heading north Tuesday the 9th from Odessa, Texas 3 turtles one north of Post, Texas where they are building the new bridge, one about 15 miles north of there and one about another 20 miles from there all before 12 noon zero other wildlife activity (all before the cold front moved in)

Tuesday the 16th heading south from Altus zero activity to Spur, Texas then from Spur to Kalgary, Texas after 6pm (and dinner at TCs Ponderosa in Dickens, Texas) 2 doe good sized in a pair, 3 does good size in a pair all crossing the road, one Buck probably a small 6 pointer 2 years if age, looked to have no felt, but healthy looking wishing to cross the road and 3 Turkey Bird hens all crossing the road

no other wildlife sightings including both trips past Altus to Fort Smith, Arkansas and past Kalgary, Texas all the way to Odessa, Texas...oil traffic from Seminole and especially past Andrews Texas is insane and north of Midland to Lamesa

no animal activity from Lubbock, Texas to Odessa on the 4th and none on the 17th the other way very little road kill anywhere except skunks here and there

heavy stocking of cattle than past years with the possible exception of 2015 when the last major drought broke and still PLENTY of unstocked land all over the trip with decent grass

Pease River ranch still has a nice gate and the high fenced operation a few miles south of there and across the road still looks dead

I did not go past the 3=4 trailer hunters camp Northfield, Texas, but I imagine it is still there

water EVERYWHERE all rivers and creeks flowing heavy field floods near Olustee, OK there are now TWO used RV dealers in Eldorado, OK instead of one!

ZERO crop harvest activity cotton does not look near ready most places and peanut processors look to have zero activity as well.....wheat crops that were planted looked good probably need fertilizer soon

sorry for the boring report and the lack of animals watch for the turtles! (although they are probably tucked away now with the weather change happy hunting!

We creamed a piggy at 60 or 70 mph the other night in Stephens in the middle of the road in a 3/4 ton. Rolled over it like a tin can but bumper wasn't too happy. Just have to drive at night to see them. We stopped for the deer who luckily didn't jump out.

earlier this year in mid March I was taking 380 west instead of 82 like I have done much more lately and was heading down the road just after dark and about halfway past Clairemont to Post and blew past a little S-10 and then realized why.....I must have passed 80 deer grazing the roadway all the way to the edge of Post...they all looked so small too

the last Deer I smashed was in a pack of about 8 just west of 83 heading towards Dumont in I think 2013 they were dragging in all the new high tension lines for the wind farms and the pack was heading down the clearing right near the road and the one decided to leave the pack and explore the front right fender of my truck mad

I should have known not to be so stupid and take that small road at that time

before that was way back outside of Dripping Springs in Fitzhugh Road in the mid 90s.....not sure how I missed hitting some heading to Junction and back to the south plains several times...they litter the place in central Texas

Yeah, we weren't 2 miles past the gate. Hate those small roads at night but is only way to the local establishment. That drive has taken a few bumpers out. I had nice buck run into me by my lease but no damage.

We were on I-45 couple years ago and counted over 50 deer between Madisonville and Centerville. Guess they know not to run into road. Kept me alert going 75.

When I'm traveling down those dark back roads, I slow down and someone will run up behind me, and after they pass me wanting to drive fast, I use them to run interference when the deer are out.
I've hit deer in the past and the faster you go the less reaction time you have, and the damage increases as well.
I cringe when it's a small car that passes me, and a sounder of hogs you won't see a shine of an eye, and not know they are there until your headlights pick them up, but then it's too late.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

I've gotten to where I won't drive at night around here unless coming home from the saloon. 50 mph max. Too many times I've narrowly missed deer and hogs.

Life is too short, as is. Don't chance it.
Don't text and drive.
