I lived in New Orleans for three years. It was the Acme Oyster bar for me. I've tried a few in the Houston area and nothing compared, until I found Tads in Katy. I just got back from this.

This was the oyster poor boy. It was loaded. I've been there several times and I seldom finish my bun. I took Cathy for lunch last Christmas. We split one.

There is no way I will ever go out to dinner alone. My neighbor drove. He got the shrimp.

It's worth the trip. Where do you find your best.

I was really unimpressed with Acme oyster house, I like Felix’s and Mother’s much better.

You are not far from Tads. It's on 1463 about mile south of I-10 in Katy.

I just did a search and it appears they are a chain with a few in the area, I’ll have to check them out.

I haven’t had a good poBoy on this side of the border with Louisiana. I used to live in NO, so I have high standards. And my standard is: hot meatball poBoy, dressed, with American cheese and extra hot mustard. Last one I had, at some little sandwich shop in Jefferson Parish, was so good that I had tears in my eyes.

Why can’t they get good French bread in Texas? I actually had this conversation at a Madrid Gras ball with the guy that ran Randall’s supermarkets. His last name was Randall. He promised he’d bring in NO style French Bread and real King Cakes. He lied. I want a King Cake from Randazzo’s Bakery and the above meatball sandwich from Tony’s ‘down in da Parish’, but Katrina got em both. Rant over...

And I prefer Felix’s to the Acme Oyster Bar, but would much rather have Oysters Mosca at Mosca’s. God knows, I miss the food.

Randall Onstead started Randall's. He was a quail hunter.

I am originally from La. so I think I know a good PO Boy when I see it. I recently on two different occasions had an oyster Po Boy at Pier 101 in Rockwall, TX. It scored pretty close to any of the good ones I had back home. Delicious!

I no longer deep fry at home. It's my only chance to have French Fries. They are fine. I can't finish the bread. You can bread the oysters in yellow cornmeal or corn flower similar to some of the fish fry breadings. Tads uses yellow cornmeal. I'm not sure about the seasoning. I'm not a fan of tartar sauce. I use coctail aka horseradish and catsup sauce.

My son liked the one at the Verti Marte mini grocery and deli 1201 Royal St. The kid was addicted, needed one a day.

You're so right, the bread is key to a great po-boy. Several of my frat brothers were from "da parish".

I'm in Houston most every week, I'll have to go try Bill's recommendation in Katy.

NOLA -> Mothers downtown, R & O's in Bucktown(Metairie).
Lafayette -> Olde Tyme Grocery makes THE best shrimp po-boy you can ever eat. Get one every time we go home.

Charlie
