The next person who posts another "age & score" thread will be cursed with rattlers on his walk-in trail, hornets and an owl's nest in his stand, and a perpetually clogged corn feeder. tired

Cut 'em some slack. I like seeing pics from other parts of the state.

Sure. Show us the pictures. We all like seeing pictures and saying "WOW, nice buck". But the age/score stuff is kind of boring and repetitive.

I've never shot anything older than a yearling, so it is not relevant to me.

I would post some pics just to irritate you but I don’t have any cameras out, I enjoy sitting out without any expectation of a certain deer.

To each their own, right?

I enjoy it. It's just for fun and a way to maybe get excited about the hunting possibilities for the OP. What's wrong with that?

It's real easy to not open the thread if it's boring and repetitive.

I wonder what happens on the ranches that implement a rule that you have to shoot a 5.5 year old buck? When you bring your deer back to camp who decides the age? Nobody agrees one ever agrees on age. We take the most mature deer available and don’t question each other.

Seeing others bucks keeps me going because I sure don’t have anything worth shooting right now

you age by tooth wear or dentine

Not all that much. If you know the habitat you should be able to get a pretty accurate estimate. Using the dentine method you measure what’s left of the dentine on the 3rd or 4th molar using a caliper and then check the chart and it will give you a very good estimate as well. Both are more accurate then a guess on a deer you don’t have a history with.

What is amazing to me on those posts is how many are sooooo wrong!

I never miss, and can't understand why everyone doesn't just agree with me?

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

Agreed, it’s still an estimate. Everyone has an opinion but...
