Took this 5 pt bull on a LQ tag in Wyoming. We had a bout a 650 yd cart and pack out to get him back to the truck. He was spotted from the road by another local-ish deer hunter who helped with the pack out. A couple of representative antelope bucks from our day hunt the same weekend. Public land for all three animals. Gators are on my bucket list, nice job!

What unit? 7? Heading out to 13 Sunday....slumming a general unit. Is 13 open, fire had it closed. Fire should be under control now but maybe issues with access. They are re evaluated closures this week. Check Ryan fire on inciweb Cold nights next week, bring that warm clothing. I could send you another spot if 13 doesn't work out. The elk came from a LQ area in the Snowies, hint hint.

You had me worried for a second, but where I'll be is open. Lows in the 0 range should make it interesting on Sunday.

Should be squeaky walking if the snow materializes with the cold. We saw some elk down on a pivot while antelope hunting in area 52 last weekend. Be interesting to hear how the hunting goes. The elk may be into the BLM with the fire or may still be on the forest. Watch out for those widow makers. Hopefully the wind will lie down for you.

Spouse rolled in with this nice little 5 pt Saturday morning. Looks like the elk are moving down now to winter range. Another nice pack out, a few hundred yards downhill to the truck. The sled seems to work great on grass as well as snow. Great hanging weather so we'll get the antelope and one elk processed next weekend.

I like those sleds. We use ours for duck and deer. A cart probably works better here but those are handy and not expensive.
Is that Elk 52 or Pronghorn 52. I'm looking at springy creek for Pronghorn next year. Probably later in the season (about this time of year). With projected point creep we should have a decent draw chance.
No matter how high a duck flies a hammer still breaks a window.

Saw a ton, probably 150 head. Bulls were bugling too. But thanks to some other hunters taking shots at 800yds (and missing)and pushing a herd further into rough country opening morning, we came up empty. I couldn't ethically shoot one 4 miles in, because I doubt I could pack it out, with all the elevation gained/lost it was more like 7 or 8 miles. But we saw some good bulls, and would've tagged out if cows were fair game.

We really lucked out with our elk this year, easy packs, or lack of a pack out. Sled and cart worked were very handy.

Deadline is approaching for the elk application period in Wyoming. Good winter so far, snow is piling up in the mountains and conditions haven't been to severe as of yet. Numbers should be high again this coming fall. Lots of good general elk areas near the Colorado border for those of you that hunt the OTC areas in Colorado. They are draw tags but less pressure on our elk up here.
