I’ve been out of the game a while. Setting up an AR-10 for pig hunting. Definitely a budget build and trying to spend the least possible to get a reliable scope to put on the rifle.

Found a Burris FFii 3-9x50 illuminated for $179

Can get the Nikon P-308 for $180

For about $100 you can get the Nikon Buckmaster II

Used to be able to get a vortex cross fire pretty cheap

What these days is considered the cheapest scope that will reliably hold zero? Don’t expect to dial dope or do box drill have another setup for that. Just need something that can take a few rounds from a gas gun and be relatively clear.

To me, a used Burris FFII/E1 is about as good as it gets for a clear, reliable set-and-forget scope. They can be had used for $100-120. Natchez has an illuminated version brand new for $159.

Gun writer John Barsness tests scopes for a living, and he is the one who turned me on to the Burris scopes.

I run a Burris Fullfield E1 on my 6.8 and it's always been solid. It gets wagged around some too, it's not a safe queen. It has the illuminated ballistic plex reticle (which can be a bit small, you may want to see it before you buy).

Nikon prostaff or the FF E1 mentioned above. Both solid scopes with decent low light performance. The illuminated Burris has 10 settings for the illumination making it more useable than some in ver low light.

Yep. Pretty good value at $199. MIL/MIL with pretty nice glass and nice turrets. It's a nice size with it's 1" tube and 11.9" overall length.

The p-308 i believe has the BDC reticle the "matches" the 308. I would stay away from those. You are hamstrung to one load in that one caliber for the BDC to work. However, the standard Nikon Buckmaster without the BDC reticle would be a good choice in my opinion. As would the vortex. I have 2 rifles with Vortex, and one with Nikon, and all three are good quality scopes.

I went with the illuminated Burris. For the money and my experience with the fullfield has been positive. Hopefully the euro dot isn’t too big at 100 yards but will know this week.

Burris Fullfield and Weaver Kaspa have both delivered when a affordable scope is needed.
