Hey y'all, I got drawn for the Copper Breaks Waterfowl hunt in January.
I'm in Dallas and may make it out one weekend to scout, but seeing as how we are in deer season from now until that hunt, I may also not scout.
So - who has been out there, do waterfowl migrate pretty good over there? Any tips, advice, comments anyone has?
Thanks y'all. I'll give a short report after the hunt if I end up accepting it.

I hunted deer there last year and couldn't believe the number of ducks I saw. It was noticeable enough that I got home and looked up if they did a waterfowl hunt. Needless to say, I'm jealous!
If you get a choice in where to go, I would park at the "Historic Windmill" - its labeled on the park trail map. From there, stay left at the fork in the trail and a few hundred yards down the trail, you find a marshy pond on your left. When I was there the first week of December, the birds were piled up thick in there all day long. The shoreline is all tall grass, reeds, etc. If I were doing it, I would take some sort of mud stool and just hide in the reeds. I saw mixed bags of puddle ducks, lots of pintail, along with mallards and gadwall.
Another location, if the water is high, is to take the right fork from the windmill and walk about half a mile. On your left is a tank that held ducks in the evening (I wasn't there in the morning). However, when I was there, the water was low and there was a stretch of 10-15 yards of bare ground all around the water, which would make things a little more difficult unless the water was high.
Good luck! I hope I get the chance to hunt ducks there some day!
