all gonna come down to budget.
what i have advised people is to consider how much you want to spend.
find a model in that budget.
save up the extra money for the next model up.

people get into a thermal, enjoy it for it capabilities then realized, man I wish I would have saved another 500-1000 for the next model.
its worth the investment.

There's multiple topics about this here in the optics section. In the $3500-$4000 range, the best options will be the Pulsar scopes. I use the XP38 Trail model, and like it a lot.

Pulsar Apex is the most bang for your buck IMO.

Just curious? Why the 50, and not the optic with a larger field of view. The 50mm unit has only 7 degrees of field of view. The 38mm has 16 degrees of field of view. And for me, when you zoom in to anything over about 4x, the image degrades and the quality goes down to see clearly. I don't go over 4x on my thermals, even on my Pulsar XP38. I'm just curious. I purposefully bought the XP38 because of the larger field of view for my use.

Things I like about the APEX XQ50

Has the highest native magnification of the Pulsar lineup (core, apex, trail)

Runs like a champ with an external battery pack - EPS3I

Currently in stock and priced at $ 2499.00 banana

While field of view is limited I prefer the higher base magnification and with Picture in Picture I rarely have to touch the digital magnification.

If you don't mind spending the cash, get an IRD Mark 2.

Glad to help buddy. We use it all and sell it all. Mostly comes down to uses and budget. We keep a large number of units in stock. I'm in McKinney and we have a range up by Lake Texoma. We do demos and night shoots sometimes.

Budget, budget, budget. That's what it all comes down to. But best all around "affordable" thermal is what everyone has already said, Pulsar Apex XQ38 or XQ50. But if your budget is larger you can get more bells and whistles like internal video recording, built in battery packs etc.

I don't think you can go wrong with a Pulsar but if you're needing more magnification I'd look at the FLIR ThermoSight Pro PTS536, but again, it all depends on your budget.ha!

Good luck and if you need free advice, don't hesitate to call.

He is the guy to talk to and the PTS233 has exceeded my expectations thus far and I have had it 3 weeks.
