Have 160 acre lease, shaped like a rectangle, not very wooded with the limited woods on the east edge and west edge. We run 2 feeders currently, one on each side, but considering adding another one or two. How about you guys? How many do you run per acre, and what is the closest you have 2 feeders by each other.

80 acres. Three feeders. I’d have one or two more feeders, but don’t want to have to deal with more.

The RealTree biologist says one feeder per 25-30 deer, or when that's an unknown number, 1 feeder per 100-150 acres. I'd say you're flush now with 4 on 160. A deer will eat about a pound a day. You can't ever really have too many I suppose, but your wallet will be healthier if you hold where you are. What you don't want are feeders where you aren't!

160 acres, mostly wooded east Tx, 5 feeders with the closest about a 100 yards apart with heavy brush between them....I can watch both from one stand though.

However many you can safely hunt. I'd think one per every 30-40 acres would be about right assuming some topography breakup. You may consider breaking up or spreading out the 4 you already have a bit more and possibly add one more if need be.

Our 900 acre lease is in S.E. Louisiana Pine plantation. We have 20 food plots of 1/4 to 1/2 acre each with a feeder on each plot, with another 3 or 4 feeders near ladder stands in the woods.

I have never hunted a place that had more than one blind per 50 acres. Most are one blind to 100-300 acres.

A friend and I hunt two tracts in East Texas that are roughly 100 acres each. We have a feeder and a food plot on one of the two, mostly because it doesn’t carry livestock. Both tracts produce quality harvests every season. On the tract that has cattle on it, we focus on hunting trails and pinch points that produce plenty of shooting opportunities. The tract has just 30 or so acres of hardwood so we focus on hunting blinds and ladder stands that overlook trails and entry points that lead to acorn/oak flats. Deer also pass through the area for the cover it provides them. And not to offend anyone, but the fact that we don’t frequent either of the tracts filling and maintaining feeders means less pressure on the deer. When hunting, we always slip in and out on foot to minimize our presence. The food plot that I often hunt is near the back of the tract but I still make it a point to walk to reach it in order to minimize human visibility. The ATV only comes out once there is meat on the ground. We do our best to keep hunting pressure to a minimum so that deer feel more comfortable being there.

A TPWD biologist told me years ago that it takes roughly 100 acres of good, East Texas hardwood bottom to support the harvest rate of one good buck per year. He also made it clear that despite what many might believe, adding more feeders does not increase the number of deer a property will support. Feeders simply serve as concentration points for deer that live in the area. The number of deer an area will support in low fence conditions is based on the availability of natural browse and habitat, as well as the way deer naturally distribute themselves. It’s only natural for hunters to believe that more feeders equates to more deer and why it’s not uncommon to see a bunch of feeders on a small tract that has four or five hunters each trying to take a deer off of it. And it explains why you find guys leasing pastures who quickly run to fence lines that border adjacent properties with good habitat to throw up a feeder and start hunting it.

7 feeders on a 1050 acres. With a few food plots thrown in as well. All the spots are set up for bow hunting. I have always wondered at what point does the addition of another feeder lessen your chance at harvesting an animal. For example lets say you have 100 acres with 1 feeder that is visited on average by 10 deer a day. If you setup another feeder what is the chance that you are just cannibalizing deer from that feeder so that now 5 deer go to each feeder instead of all to one, therefore you see less deer per hunt. I know there are thousands of variables for this and that the addition of a new feeder location could attract deer that didn't visit your other feeder. At some point I feel like adding another feeder could do more harm than good in some instances.

We run 1 corn feeder per 100 acres, and 1 free-choice protein feeder per every 250. This is in Llano Co.

Currently running 7 feeders on 300 acres. Only two of us hunting this year so may let at least two go empty. My newest stands are in hotspots, so will probably only hunt them.
