Hunting a few hogs this weekend on the Corp land and they only allow archery and shotguns with pellets. Not slugs, no pistols, no rifles. So I was going to take my competition M3K 12ga out there with a red dot on it and 12 round tube LOL. My buddy and I both have FLIR PTS233 and they're rated for 308's, but we can't seem to get a strait answer from FLIR the guy my buddy talked to said well I guess I might put in on a 20ga.

Has anyone ever done this with the PTS233? Did the thermal survive? My buddy wants to do it with some reduced recoil loads. I'm scared, because there aren't any hogs out there worth $2200 bucks to replace my thermal.

I was just going to run my Leupold DeltaPoint Pro on my shotgun, but they don't seem to be coming out until after dark and we don't ever hunt with lights.

Thanks in advance.

Sapper has one on his 870, I think. You should ask him. Oh, wait....

Lol, yea i knew he did, but he has the trail. Think I'm just going to run red dot and green light use the thermal to spot.

That is wise.

Yeah, Sapper has a Pulsar and Pulsars have a higher recoil rating that FLIRs.

Someone has to try it and let us know....might as well be you! roflmao

I was just talking to Sapper yesterday about this. He's running it on a 12ga with 2 3/4 Hornady SST Sabots. He said he wouldn't even try 3" in a 20ga.

The Pulsars are rated for up to a .375 H&H, the FLIR ThermoSight's a .308.

It's a gamble but I don't blame you if you decide not to try it.

Nope not me, but my buddy seems hell bent on it so I'll let you guys know after Saturday LOL.

He is going to run 2 3/4" low recoil buckshot in it.

Hey, maybe it will work. Maybe it will only work for a little while. Maybe it dies with the first shot. cry

I wouldn’t risk it either . I run a pulsar rxq30v on a 45-70, but they are rated for higher recoil
