Our house sits on a 2.5 acre lot with one half of the back property line being a small creek about 18' deep but never has had more than 2'-3' of water in it even after a heavy rain. The entire length of the creek bank was covered with gullies....some wide and some deep. The previous owner would have dirt hauled in every few years to fill in the gullies only to have it all washed away over time. I wanted a more permanent solution.

Here are some of the washes all brushed up.

Next I filled the washes around trees with soil.

We filled the washes and let them settle for about seven months.....

Then capped it with 4"-6" of good top soil...

Laid 4" drain lines all the way to the creek bed. "Y"d two feeder lines into each drop. Then put a 4" "T" at the end of each feeder line.

Built a 8"-12" clay berm 2'-4' wide across the drain lines....Spitfire drove the tractor....I got to drive the shovel and rake....

Then we capped the berm with 4"-6" of top soil to make a raised bed.

We "gained" all the ground from the row of trees to the right of the BBQ pit to the berm.....several feet! Most of the filled areas were 2'-4' deep with a couple over 6' (behind the BBQ pit) and one over 12' deep.

Now all we have to do is add some ground cover, some grass, and a few flowering shrubs then see what the weather brings....

Great job SnakeWrangler! I've got a similar situation on our place but not nearly that severe. If we ever get moved out here permanently I need to do something like that. Either that or go ahead and have a tank dug in that area.

Broke a sweat just browsing the pics. That was a yeoman’s job and looks awesome.

Finally got some groundcover, Mexican heather, and palms planted....

And had a small breach near the unfinished end....only have about half of it done which is behind the house. Still have to do behind the shop. Friggin gopher tunneled under near a tree. It washed out a little bit but will be repaired as we continue across the back..... rifle

I hate gophers....they are the primary cause of most of our erosion problems....now its war....
