I bought a XP50 from Optics Planet this past July 17th. Received the package, inspected it to make sure all was good etc. When i turned it on all I saw was a blank screen just like when our old TV stations would sign off for the night. "Snow", we used to call it.
My thought was "Ok, this is my first thermal. I need to read the owners manual, and watch You Tube videos to know what I'm doing with it. Well, never got the chance to get back to it until this week.
I realized after trying all kinds of settings that the thing is defective. I call Optics Planet. Their return/replacement policy is 30 days. They give me Pulsar's tech support number. I call them, describe the problem, and they direct me to their website to fill out a return authorization request. Ive submitted it and am waiting for a response.
While on their website I learn that I should have registered the thing within 30 days. I thought i was good to go with my purchase receipt.
Im hoping for a positive response but just in case they give me the shaft is there anyone that can fix the thing?
I am sick thinking that I now have a $5000.00 paperweight.
Was really looking forward to my first night hog hunting with this thing.

I’m fairly certain the registration process is to assist when people don’t have a receipt / proof of purchase

So long as your receipt is valid and the serial number is legit you have a warranty that covers manufacturers defects

They’ll most likely take care of your issue and get you hunting

What P_P said:

I think several decades ago the FTC declared that a manufacturer could not void a warranty simply because a buyer did not send in registration paperwork. Plus, Pulsar has a good reputation for taking care of their customers. I'm pretty sure you'll be all right.

You are absolutely good to go. The fine print says you are supposed to register it but that is not enforced at all. All you need is the original receipt proving you bought the scope. Pulsar is absolutely going to take care of you.

Just an FYI.....contrary to popular belief, the warranty is NOT transferable to a second owner. The manufacturer's warranty is only for the original buyer with their purchase receipt. That is true for FLIR and Pulsar. I know in the past Trijicon has allowed some warranty transfers but 2 weeks ago they told someone I know that they were no longer doing that. This person spoke with two different people and they were glad to confirm when the scope was manufactured by the serial number but they would not allow the warranty to be transferred out of the original purchaser's name.

So if someone says they have a used scope that they never registered etc and you can have the full warranty, that is actually not true and against the normal manufacturer's warranty terms. That doesn't mean you shouldn't buy used, you just need to factor that into the price. Lots of great deals on lightly used thermals out there.

Good luck!

Thank you all. They sent me a RA (return Authorization). It should arrive in Mansfield tomorrow. More to follow.

Folks,
FedEx just delivered a brand new unit to me.
What a quick turn around!
Selmark received the unit Monday evening. Tuesday they determined there was an internal ribbon problem but they are not allowed to open the units. Wednesday they shipped a brand new unit to me. It arrived today. I am charging the battery right now.
Thanks Selmark!

Honestly, that sounds pretty typical of Sellmark.

Now, go get 'em!

And that's why Pulsars are selling like hotcakes. Glad to hear you're back up and running!

Can you sight this unit in daylight or, only, at night?
It looks so good at night.

It looks the same day or night, you're sighting on a hot spot, not a bright spot.

I use a 2x2 inch square piece of foil , taped around the edges to a solid colored target background.

Works like a charm

Foil does work really well.

I have also found that on bright and sunny days, a Shoot-n-See target pasted to white paper will show up really well because the black scratch-off stuff soaks up heat much faster than the white paper behind it. So the Shoot-n-See circle stands out.

I have also use a square of duct tape placed on a sheet of paper when I forgot the foil at home.
