I donít know what kind of oak it is. My whitetail hunting has mainly been Texas/Mexico, this East Texas stuff is new to me, no high rack trucks, you actually have plan your hunting. I have my ladder stand up against the largest Pin Oak Iíve ever seen. Lots of Acorn trees in that bottom.

My plan is to leave that gravity feeder in that spot. Move my ladder stand across the creek and down about 150 yards which has more/better hardwoods, funnel/trails/slight ridge hoping deer will come to acorns on that side of the creek. Not sure the wind will be in my favor, wrong side of hardwoods.

Maybe the pigs will stay around the corn and feed block I have out.

Out of the 4 stands I have, both of my bow stands are covered up in pigs. Once it cools off, Iím going to put some pig meat in the freezer.

Thanks, Billy

Choot um and they'll stay away at least for a little while.
A little shooting will scare the deer less than the hogs will.

East Texas hogs are good eating. I hunt Cass and Marion county and get some great pig meat every year. I made tree mounted feeders using 4" PVC with 2 elbows at the bottom. One elbow to bring it out from the tree and second to turn to the side. I drilled holes at the bottom of the elbow to let any water drain out. You can cargo strap them to a tree higher than the hogs can reach. Deer snout fits right in that 4" elbow.
Be sure to buy the cap for the top. I use a 2 gallon bucket and fill then from a ladder, one with corn the other pellets or 365.
So even when the hogs raid my feeder, there is still something for the deer. I love hunting the thick woods and heavy timber. I like to get as close as possible to what I am hunting, its a challenge but has produced great rewards.

These are the two comments I heard. Scout the woods, learn the trails and direction of travel on those trails, figure out why they are going that particular direction, ie., feed, water, bedding, etc., so you can nail down a time (morning/afternoon) to hunt that trail area. Good idea, it needs to be cool before you really get into the hog killing for meat purposes, remember the old saying...Its hog killing weather...frost on the ground from the morning dew.
