Anybody been by the Royse City public lands for dove hunting? Planning to go Saturday morning, but wanted to see if anybody else has been.

I visited these fields a couple of years ago after opening weekend. Saw lots of birds but they were out of range. Spoke with one gentleman who had 4 mojos working after evening hunt and he had close to a limit. He said patience and scouting paid off for him. He also said evenings were better.

FYI, I have bought some mojos. They seem to draw the birds closer to take a look. But hunter movement still makes them turn before in shooting range.

Did you visit and how did you do? elmer

Had to take my daughter to Rockwall this morning, so I’m going tomorrow morning instead. I have a mojo that I’m planning on setting out. I might try to sneak out this afternoon when my wife takes the baby to a birthday party. From what I hear these are corn fields?

Anybody know the rules on bringing your dog to public hunting lands? Mine won’t retrieve, but she’ll provide me with some company.

Man, I was out around there recently. Looked all over and didnt see too much. Laid a good decoy spread, 2 mojo spinners, 4 mojo flickers, 8 little hard body clip ons and a lucky duck dove flapper. Only saw one single bird. I listed my decoy spread because I wanted yall to know I threw the gauntlet down. Only one bird. Im pretty frustrated with my dove hunting situation so far this year. Ive put the miles on tires and have walked them too. Literally. Im going west and north towards the panhandle. If all else fails maybe I'll get a bunch of eurasians up there. If not. Im going to quit.

...who am I kidding... I'll probably just buy some other thing to throw in my decoy bucket.

I was thinking about going out for an evening hunt. I’ll take my one mojo spinner with me. Doubt it helps, but we will see. Hard to find good dove hunting on public land around these parts.

I agree, I’ve never had good luck out there. The most I’ve seen is ~10, usually it’s 3 or 4 that are out of range.
