I’m in Everman at my sons baseball tournament and about 12 green parrots just flew over. They resemble the ones that I saw on a recent hunting show. Are they moving up from Mexico like the white wings did?

I just googled them and they are the same ones that they hunt in Argentina.

There is a group of them in Mesquite/Garland. Used to see them every morning while commuting on 635.

Funny, I just saw a few the other day in SE Austin. Crappy picture but they're on the ground feeding.

When they hit my hackberry, they make a huge mess. Lots of folks feed them around here. If you go to White Rock, they live on west side near the boat house. They are loud all day long there.

Monk Parakeets(Quaker Parrots) can be seen nesting at the tops of most of the cell phone towers in the Austin metro area, numbering in the 1000-2000 range for the area...same birds make an amazing sight when a 100-200 perch atop the facade on the HEB storefront in Brownsville!

Spent the summer working in Sugarland. There was a good size group of them. They would come in to water with the doves every evening. It was cool seeing them. Not a very good pic

Had a bunch living in cell phone towers and such when I lived in Austin back in the late 90's. The story I heard was an illegal bird dealer about to get busted let all his birds go to avoid the fines or whatever. The birds set up house in Austin and multiplied. Truth or not? I have no idea. But we did have a lot of little green parrots all over the place. I lived just off Oltorf about two blocks north of Montopolis.

I see them often here in Houston, and used to see them around Austin when I lived there. This article explains their origin.

“Having settled into Houston and other cites, monk parakeets may become ordinary invasive birds, such as house sparrows and European starlings.”

Could parakeet hunts be in our future? Wonder if they taste like dove.

Yes, they're Red Crowned parrots.
I've often seen them when visiting my folks in SE Houston.

Some are from Mexico. And some are escaped pets.
