I watched two mature bucks sparring this morning. Yesterday two young bucks were pushing each other around. Seems a little early to me.
Establishing their pecking order in the bachelor group. Those hardened antlers make them bad arses.
I watched a little four point a couple of years ago that thought he was the baddest thing on four legs.
He was always bullying even bigger bucks than him, and one day he came out in the clearcut and started walking toward the other deer (bucks) that were feeding aready. He had his ears back and head angled to one side and hair standing up approaching the deer, and this six point just slightly bigger than him took him on.
As their antlers clashed I saw a main beam go flying through the air, and it was that smart arses antler so now he only had one side and the other broken off at the base.....The victor chased his butt away and I didn't see him until the later part of the season and he still had a little attitude but he sure looked funny.
