Anyone have any experience with the Fed Fusion bullet in their reloading? Specifically the 165 30 cal. Thanks Daniel

I wasn’t aware it was available for reloading. I can tell you it’s a very impressive bullet for on game performance. Never had one fail to expand and only had one fail to exit. It was on a very large boar and was found in the offside hide after taking out both shoulders.

Edit: 7-08 140g

The one that failed to exit. I don’t remember weight retention but it was way up there as you can tell from the pics.

Looks great. Speer is now offering the Gold Dots to reloaders which is the exact same bullet technology.

I used my 6.8 with 115 gr factory loads on 20+ whitetails, and it exits every time with a good-sized exit. The 7-08 I have in the classifieds has also killed 6-8 with the 120 gr factory Fusion, massive bloodtrail on several shot in the heart-lung region. I've been impressed with the accuracy as well. I bet you'll find and excellent hunting round loading that bullet.

I shot a big buck with the 165gr factory loading last year. The buck was chasing a doe, running away from me at my 2:00 position at about 100yds. The bullet liqufied the liver and lungs, and shattered the right scapula. The bullet came to rest just before exiting the hide. Held together great for travelling through nearly the entire body (above the gut) diagonally.

You know, there is a reason I buy as many Fusion bullets as possible on Gunbroker or Midway USA closeouts - they to me represent THE best bang for the buck in terms of performance in .308 caliber or higher.

I specify the 308 or higher, because I did experience a bullet failure in 6.5 Grendel and I don't have enough time in with the smaller calibers to say whether it was a fluke or not....

Here are some photos of .338 (1 bullet) and .308 Speer Deep Curl recovered bullets.

Note: The Deep Curl is similar in design and construction and predated Federal's Fusion but like someone else mentioned Speer's GoldDots are similar as well - so the best way to know for certain is to recover as many bullets as possible to make a final determination.

If you cannot find those Federal bullets. Sierra Game King 165 gr Spire Point Boattail is a good alternative.

I have about 1500 of the 62gn Fusions. They have done well on coyotes and feral dogs in an AR. Going to get them tuned up in my 223AI for deer season as well.

Are you going to pull those pistols, or whistle Dixie?
