Man I like this dog. He just turned 2. It doesn't seem to matter what we target, he is all in and committed to his work. This weekend we got a short break in the rain and dove hunted in a goat weed patch on a sand hill in East Texas. Those that have hunted thick goat weed understand it is a challenge without a dog. It was a good hunt.

Aerial surveillance system is engaged. Yeah I already know I'm not photogenic....

Rooting a down bird out of the thick stuff. It's a little blurry. He was rolling.

One more. Atta boy!

Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

Being a pointer do you have any problem getting him to sit and wait with you. I have a shorthair and I can get him to dove hunt with me, but if things get slow he tries to wonder off.

Initially yes. He has learned to shift gears in accordance with what we are doing. It's instinctive for all good bird dogs to go find birds, rather than wait for them. Screwing down obedience in the yard away from birds and being consistent helped him differentiate between freewheeling upland work and the static obedience required to work as a retriever.
He does get pissy if I don't shoot well....

That is some odd looking facial hair but I do like that Pudelpointer.
