Smoked burgers today. It's a first for me. Tried to run the smoker at 225 but it has a hard time being stable at that temp. I know it'll run stable at 235 so I let it go there. Probably didn't make much difference I bet. Anyway, the patties were on a little over an hour to get to 160 internal. Turned out amazing. Definitely going to play around with that some more.

No doubt you're right. I didn't think about it until they were gone. I'll get some pics next time - pretty sure it won't be long.

up and if you want to give something similar a try, use either breakfast or Italian sausage to make your patties ...

Let us know. Sound great. I have gotten into the habit of chopping a piece of frozen bacon into very small pieces and mixing it in a 3/4 lb patty and grilling. Wish I had thought of that a long time ago, they're fantastic. I'd like to smoke one, let us know time and temp you used.

Smoked until 160 internal. The small patties took a little over an hour at ~235. Time varies depending on size of patties.

I've started cooking my breakfast sausage on the smoker-will make 2-3lbs of patties, smoke and freeze. Game-changer.

No need to slow smoke a burger. Get your smoker as hot as you can get it (over 400 degrees) and cook it for 15-20 mins. Won’t dry it out and will leave a smoke ring on the burger.

Yes. We started doing burgers after I got the traeger. Completely different flavor than on the grill. One of the better burgers I’ve ever cooked.

Of course, grilling is very different from smoking.

Back to topic.

What was the doneness of the burger? I like my burgers rare, when they create their own sauce and it bleeds through the bun it’s even better.

BigPig, they were medium well +. It was intentional despite my preference. First reason, since I hadn't done them like this before I wanted to make sure this experiment wasn't going to get anybody sick. Second, most of the people eating like burgers more done than I do. I like a burger medium - maybe slightly more on the medium rare side. Having said all that, they were great. Still juicy. Next round will be more to my liking.
