Anyone ever use petrified wood for knife handles?

I have some large pieces that I have found and would consider having a knife made with some.

Would like a folder but open to a small EDC

I would think that it would be too brittle.

I wouldn't use a rock. Unless making a primitive knife.

Seeing that Chops used mammoth tooth in a folder, I thought petrified wood might work.

I would have to have it cut and polished before it would look good.

All my pieces are in my office at work.

Will post pics Monday.

This is not one that I found. It was given to me by a friend. But is from west Texas.... near El Paso.

None of our resident knife makers have jumped at the prospect of doing this project...so it may not take off.

If someone is considering it.....we can certainly work out some extra scales for your future use.

It would need to be stabilized but that would make some great looking knives.
