I had one in my first Nightforce NXS. Used it once, never really saw a need other than a "dot" in a defense gun.

I've used mine hunting in bvb low light/no light a few times. Used it all last weekend at a night shoot but that's not a normal thing.

I like the Leupold Firedot. I don't care for others. The Firedot is helpful for fast shots on game. You eye is naturally drawn to it.

Sure are handy at night, coupled with a spot light. Night Force had a damn good idea putting red and green illumination in the ATACR. Running a red spot light the green reticle is nice. And vice versa.

I agree 100%. For me anything more than a dot takes away from how natural it is. I have also found that most others are too bright for low light use for me. I lose my night vision rather easily. I think Leupolds firedot has 8 settings.

Better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it.

I have illumination on two 1st gen Vortex Viper PST FPS scopes. Even at the lowest setting, the illumination is too bright.

I like the IR on my Sightron SIII LR. The reticle is pretty fine and hard to see in the first and last 5-10 minutes of shooting time. IR helps a lot.

I personally wasnt aware there was a cool factor. I find it useful on quick acquisition and moving targets. I have been thinking about switching by strike eagle 1-6 out for just a red dot. I like simple. For me it makes acquisition easier and faster especially at lowlight

so many scopes have WAY too much.. for hunting, a small, dot that can get VERY dim is what you want for low light

I’m with ccoker, and because of what I’ve learned and experienced over the last few years, my next scope is probably going to be a Leupold VX5 3-15 CDS with the firedot that has variable intensity.

I don't know if yall have looked through some of the upper end of illuminated reticles. Several scopes in the $800+ range have a very low number 1 setting, that is not too bright. In certain situations, more than number one is better, since number 1 is so dim.

This. My schmidt has to be almost on 11 to be useful in a no light situation. My premier is about mid way it seems.

well, if it is NV compatabile it is going to be very dim..

I won't buy a nice hunting scope without IR...it's the way to go, IMO. For hunting in low light it makes it much, much easier.
