What is the best way to store a duck before taking it to the taxidermist? And how long will it keep stored this way?

My taxi advises tucking the head under one wing (keeps neck from snapping) and freezing inside a couple of layered, sealed plastic bags. Have had him mount a couple of ducks that were going on one year in the freezer using this method.

Awesome, thanks guys. I've googled it but was wanting to hear what some of y'all actually have done. Hopefully I can get out enough and cross a couple of the list this year

I did the wet paper towel wrapped around the legs and it was in my freezer for three years. Worked great and the taxi said thatís how he preferred them.

Iíve also heard other people say that they donít wrap them in wet paper towels and thatís better. Best to find a taxi and ask his preference then take it to him when your ready.

Wet paper towel on feet and around beak tucked under the wing. Store in ziploc with air squeezed out.

Keeps the feathers from being ruffled up and broken. We used to pack pheasants in pantyhose when bringing them back from Kansas. Leastwise, that's what we told our wives when they found the pantyhose...

Seriously, though...it does work.

That's how I always do it. I keep a few in the truck glove box just in case I get a good one I want to mount. Daughter saw them once and gave me a funny look but didn't question me, lol

Thats what mine said as well. Lay it out as best you can, tuck it up nice, and then a couple ziplocs inside a couple grocery bags. Always come out fine, although I try and get them to him as quick as I can.
