Hey guys.. Just wanted to share my hunt from yesterday. I was out scouting several months back and came upon a group of pigs. I was walking with the wind at my back that day so they smelled me long before I got close to them. I only saw them as they were running away from me streaming across the trail. I never had a chance for a shot. Yesterday, I went back out to the same area and thought to come in from the other direction, with the wind in my face. As I was walking in I came to a creek and as I approached the creek I could see that a small sapling tree was shaking. This small tree was growing up out of the creek bed. At first I thought "squirrel". Then, I kept watching and thinking, man that must be a heavy squirrel! The top of that tree was shaking quite a bit. So, I watched for a minute longer, and then began creeping up towards the edge of the creek to see what was really happening. I had only taken 2 steps when a black object began ascending the other bank of the creek. PIGS! Apparently the pigs were either rubbing on the base of that tree, or were just bumping it as they walked past it. The first pig was up and over the bank before I even realized what it was. I pulled my rifle up, clicked the safety off and as soon as I could see through the scope-there was another pig going up the same spot. Yes, the shot was rushed. I only had a split second to pull the trigger before the pig disappeared over the top of the next bank. Browning Dura-touch 30-06 all weather-stainless, shooting a Hornady SST, 150 grain, over a load of Varget did the trick. The bullet tore forward from the front of the left rear ham, eventually passing through the pig and exiting at the right front shoulder. If you look at the pic, you can see that the right front leg is only being held on by skin. After the shot, a stream of pigs began running up the bank, and I could also hear more of them down in the creek running through the water. I estimate there were at least 15 pigs in the group. All the ones that ran up the far bank were of the same size as this one-about 35 lbs. I never saw any adults. Maybe they ran down the creek. Anyway, here's the pic; After that I began looking over the area and this entire area-both sides of the creek-are entirely torn up. They apparently had been shacking up in this area for a while. There was not a spot of ground in either direction that was not rooted. Looking forward to deer season.
A hog is nothing more than a bullet receptacle.

Nice!
I recommend upgrading your bullets from SSTs to something less frangible.

The SST did a great job of penetrating and destruction! No tracking either.
