I've always known this to be true, but what I saw Sunday morning was just amazing. After a so-so opening limit of dove Saturday morning, I decided to just sleep in Sunday morning. As nature would have it, I awoke at 0400 and knew I wouldn't be able to go back to sleep, so I grabbed a light chair and headed to the woods to enjoy the sights and sounds of a new day. I had seen a bachelor group of 14 Longbeards pass by us in the field we dove hunted Saturday morning and head in the direction of where I had set-up, in hopes I might catch a glimpse. I set-up just off the edge of an abandoned RR grade, which gave me a long view. Soon after daylight began, I heard a gobble, then another, and before long the woods were awake, and full of gobbling toms. Apparently, the group we ran off the field had roosted near another group of toms that evening. These 2 groups met on that RR grade and the fight was on. I could never see all of them, but I would guesstimate an easy 35 gobblers were in those groups together. They fought, strutted, and gobbled for 2 hrs. Forget hearing any other sounds of a new morning...the racket they put off was like none I have heard before at anytime.
It was a great morning in the woods of Texas. Wished I had taken a video camera..it would have been a epic video.
