I have a couple of stand and fill type feeders. As you’d expect, the spinners that are supposed to seal off after feeding finally quit sealing off. Sand, corrosion, squirrel spit...whatever. After ‘fixing’ them a few times, I just wrapped the lower section with chicken wire. Worked great. For a while. But those little thieves finally found small gaps to squeeze through. They drained one feeder before I found out what they were doing. So I redid the screening. Let’s see what those little rodents think about that.

While I was working on one feeder I could hear a hog in the brush, snuffling and grunting. Not far away at all. I had my trusty pliers.

chicken wire likely won't keep out a squirrel for long and probably not a coon either.

Sounds like a job for a suppressed .22 rifle.

Monarch cages are the best after-market I’ve found for squirrels and coons.

These feeders come with a steel mesh boxing around the spinner mechanism, so coons can’t get in there. But the squirrels can. A double layer of chicken wire allows corn to fly out, and has, so far, kept the squirrels out. All ‘leaks’ are covered and reinforced now. I’ll have to keep an eye on them.
