Buck from last year

Buried for 6 months, dug it up and cleaned with a wire brush. Left it brown this time and sprayed with a clear coat. Just trying a different look and it turned out pretty good.

Happy hunting everybody.

Thanks for that. I couldn't get my photos to work this morning so I just put a link to the 3 I had online.

I like it. Did you bury just the skull? How did you protect the antlers?

Thanks. I buried it up to the bottom of the antlers a little and put a big feed bucket on top, weighed down by a cinderblock so the dog wouldn't mess with it. Even if you go higher up on the antlers it won't hurt them. It just makes them a little darker, which looks pretty cool.

I do the burying method because I boiled that white one in the middle and that stuff is nasty. Then I bleached it and it's a pita too.

I'm never in a rush, so I take the frozen head straight from the butcher and bury it. Then paint with killz white, or whatever color I want. This one looked nice brown, so I left it.

I chained a deer head to a tree, and left it there for about one year. There is still some skin stuck on part of the skull. I use it for a garden decoration, so I did not clean it further. If you just throw the head on the ground, it will not be there long.

Underground critters will clean it if given enough time. Mother Nature at work.

I do this the same way nowadays. I used to have a 27 gallon tote worm farm and used it several times, that worked best. A friend of mine has an acre pond on his place and the critters in that pond do an awesome job in two weeks, comes out looking bleached after you dry the skull.

Thanks for the compliments everyone.

I tried the pond method on one a few years back and it messed up my antlers. I know people that used it with success, but I just went with burying them for now.

Did you leave it in the pond too long?
