An hour west of Salina. I got an invite to hunt up there opening weekend. Did anyone hunt this area last year? I told him I was in. I hope it’s worth the drive.

I did many years ago and it was a blast. If it is walk in hunting, ask the land owners that border the public land. that is where are the birds are!

usually good hunting, like above post, ask for permission to hunt, if the land owner says yes, ask if any of his neighbors allow hunting, if you get permission, always ask if he would like for you to bring him a bird.
hold on Newt, we got a runaway

We should be good on spots to hunt. We are hunting with a guy that’s from there and his family still has a lot of farm land.

Last year on opening day we were about 30 miles SW of there. We got skunked on pheasants and were having a terrible day until we realized we were having an awesome quail hunt. There were way more quail than normal. Then we moved further NW and found the same...quail in places we had never seen them before.

I talked to my farmer in S.W. Ks. said the same thing, pheasants are sketchy, quail are getting better every year.

It’s always fun to hunt new places new habitat. I would go in a heartbeat for quail or any other bird

I have hunted family farm and walk in areas in Kansas...I prefer the family farm areas...usually the owners got the birds or you wouldn’t be invited...go have fun and tell us the results with a story and pics...

Deer hunt that area every yr. it seems hit or miss on seeing birds year to year. I always see birds, but some yrs a lot more than others. I usually see quite a few quail. PS, there aren't any deer up there.
Plenty of Walk In areas to hunt as well.
I avoid Dick's and hope they fold.

So, if you decide not to go...maybe I can schedule in as your replacement! I am always ready to head to Kansas, as long as I can schedule it in...Just Go...
