Go ahead and bid on a 7 day hunt!

Had a too good to pass up opportunity in front of us and now me and the wife are going on a 7 day safari with Nyala as the main target, along with adding Gemsbok, Black Wildebeest and maybe bushbuck/impala

I'm a little bit giddy, I wont lie. Nyala is one of my favorite animals, even though I have repeatedly said I have no desire to go to Africa, now that its real I'm excited about it.

Anyone with experience care to chime in? We are hunting in the Limpopo province

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Are you going to wear kaki shorts and have a dozen natives following you with baskets on their heads?

Reinforcing the "Never say 'never'" motto! 'Proud of you. Was there alcohol involved in this bidding process? I ask 'cause it's happened to me.

Take me with you next time. We'll be hunting Bongo in the Congo, eating crap food with pigmies and waiting for the "jungle god" to come out and bless us before the hunt in no time!

+1 for Steve Turner with TWG. Great group of people, never had any hiccups with them.

Did you ever get all of your Idaho questions answered???

Great trip to take your new rifle for life.

My best suggestion is to take a good camera with a good lens.

You'll enjoy the photos for years to come.

Congratulations, you'll have a great time!

I hope you make the trip.
My brother is wanting my wife and I to join him and his wife on an African safari.
Please post pictures, I am having a hard time convincing the wife on this one

I've never had any interest in hunting in Africa either. It's too hot, I've always associated hunting with cold weather.
I'd rather go to Russia but if they opportunity to go to Africa fell in my lap, I'd have no reason to say know.

I hunted Nyala near the town of Kumga, which was about an hour from the coast. Temps where cool during the day, and a bit chilly in the mornings. This was all free range hunting on a very large cattle ranch. After shooting mine, I decided on the spot that it had to be a full mount. It was just too amazing to not do a full mount. I'm still waiting on the mount, it's almost $3,000 to have it mounted, so I'm taking my time paying for it before he starts the actual work.

Limpopo holds some of the biggest kudu bulls in Africa. They are addicting.......

+3 on Steve Turner Travel With Guns. There's nothing like Africa.

Use good bullets, budget money for something extra, and don't be afraid to veer away from your list. If your PH gets very excited and starts stuttering, it's wise to switch gears and go after whatever he is looking at. If you are like most of us, you will end up going back. Taxidermy is a huge part of the total bill. Have it done here or euro it all in Africa. I could've booked another trip for what it cost for dip/pack/ship and taxidermy cost. Oh and Congrats! You will have a blast

YOu will get more hunting in one week in AFrica than most do in a life time. Also learn ya don't know as much about hunting as you think you do also.

Same for Alaska. Its one thing to cut up a deer or pig and drop in an ice chest. Its all about salt! in Alaska and Africa.

If the only hunting you do is go to Africa to hunt plans game once a year, its can be cheaper than a deer lease in some cases when you add up all the other stuff that goes with it.

Between the $6200 I've spent to fix a hunting truck thats not worth much more and all the lease money, I could have bought a plane ticket and did a 5 animal hunt in South Africa.

The way africa is going, won't be hunting in a few years.

Thanks, Billy

If I won an African safari I would prob either ask for a check for the hunt value or donate it for someone who would truly enjoy it.

People do that all the time SapperTitan. They get drunk at a banquet and bid on a hunt just because nobody else is biding on it. A lot of the people end up never going on the trip because they find out the price they payed for the hunt is a small fraction of the cost of going. You may place a bid on a whim, but you have to want it to actually go.

I think the second sentence is why some come on here to pronounce, oracle like, that they wouldn't hunt Africa. Also they have a preconceived notion of how it will be, "Nobody's telling me how or what to shoot," yada, yada.

There are many styles and types of hunting across southern Africa, depending on which country, what you're hunting, etc.

You may come back and decide that particular type of hunt isn't your cup of tea. You're still better off for having gone. A little travel and adventure is good for the soul (and the marriage).
