Nicely done. My first redefines the term "dink".

Thank you for your kind responses. I hope to learn a lot from the knowledgeable people on this forum. I feel so blessed that I have friends that let me hunt on their land, and that I got a buck like that, in the first 30-45 minutes of hunting.

I was chasing a doe and had adrenaline and was shaking because I thought I was going to shoot a deer. The doe disappeared when saw this buck. He was following a big doe and was down wind of me. He stopped and looked right at me. I was pretty sure he smelled me and was about to run. I was shaking but shot so fast. I was actually aiming behind his front shoulder. I should have taken more time to make a better shot. I could have hit him in the gut or missed, but if I took longer to shoot, I thought he would run. I fired as soon as the rifle hit my shoulder because I thought he would run. It worked out but next time I will take a few seconds to make a better shot.

Congrats! And like the others said he is way bigger than my first one. But I remember killing that little dink just like it was yesterday and it was over 30 years ago.

Yes, I can't wait. I've been looking at aerial views of the property, reading deer hunting articles, listening to hunting pod casts. Trying to prepare for this season. I bought the land owners a feeder. They put it in the front yard because they like to watch the deer. Does feed there, so I figure if it keeps the does there, that will be good during the rut. There is a bedding area in the mesquite right behind there house. I found the perfect spot to hunt just outside the bedding area. There is a big tree. I've never used a tree stand, and last December if I remember correctly, it had leaves and would be hard to see out of. I was thinking of using a pop up ground blind instead. Anyone have suggestions?
